7th Annual Warwickshire Wooden Spoon Golf day
Monday 22nd August 2011 saw the 7th Annual Warwickshire Wooden Spoon Golf day take place at the Maxstoke Park Golf Course. Our thanks go out to everyone at Maxstoke especially Andy and his green^s staff who had the course in its usual pristine condition. The day was sponsored by Whites of Coventry Ltd and greatful thanks go to Jim White. 27 teams took part in glorious sunshine. Spoony was in attendance and helped all over the course with the fun raising throughout the day. We hope to have collected in excess of 5K. Our celebrity guests who played included Steve Beaton PDC Darts Professional 1996 World champion. Jockey^s Jodie Mogford, Dominic Elsworth and duo Grand National winning Jockey Carl Llewelyn.
Ian Holroyd looked after the gamble hole with 11 year old Joshua Davenport 9 handicap golfer from Maxstoke. Joshua has just qualified At Wee Wonders Golf Championship at St Andrews to represent GB & Ireland in the Junior Golf World Championship at Pinehurst North Carolina 2012 Good luck Josh.
The evening was hosted by the great Roger Dakin MC who was in great form. We were served the usual high standard of cuisine and our thanks go to Sheila and Sadie.
The Winners of the Golf were The Watermill Hotel from Paisley Scotland which was great to see as Michael Lavazani owner of the hotel has been a great supporter of Warwickshire Spoon always entering a team into our competition for many years. Coventry Police last years winners were in the runners up spot and third place went to Neil Askew and his team from Askew and associates accountants from Coventry. The most golf played was by our sponsors team Whites of Coventry and they were presented with Spoon anoraks. Special thanks to Suppliers of our Silent auction prizes Lee Moulson at Warwick race course, John Francome at Channel four racing, Jodie Mogford, Steve Beaton, Charlie Longsdon, Graeme Mcpherson, Daryl Hunter and Paddy Carey of Carey^s Nightclub Coventry.
