In the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League third division leaders Bournbrook Arrows were pushed all the way by an under strength Bournbrook Flights, the former opened a 2-0 advantage only to see it wiped out when Flights stormed back to take a 3-2 lead. With the match delicately balanced at three each Les Orton defeated an unlucky Sheila Crowe to give Arrows a narrow 4-3 verdict. In the first division Greenlands Arrows got the better of Selly Oak Flights with a close 4-3 result, while in the second division Longbridge 26’ers beat Caledonian Corks 5-2.

In the league’s divisional cup Stirchley United WMC had a good 6-1 win over E57 in division one. Greenlands got the better of a 4-3 result in their local derby against Greenlands Arrows and with a similar scoreline Newbridge beat Selly Oak Flights.

In the division two event Tascos Brunswick won 4-3 against Caledonian Corks.

No change at the top of the Brookmeadow Individual League as the top two players Robert Earl and Gordon Clinton both chalked up two 3-0 wins. Leader Earl, on 67 points had wins over Paul Hogan and John Whitehouse, whereas Clinton, with 56 points defeated Gareth Lomas and Andy Williams. Ricky Lawrence kept within six points of Clinton when he beat Pat Koyce 3-0 and Mark Elkin 2-1.

At the other end of the table there was no joy for  Paul Hogan, who after losing 3-0 to Gareth Lomas stays firmly rooted to the bottom spot with five as is Andy Williams, while Lomas has now amounted 21 points.

Mark Elkin and Brendan Lysaught were the only players to hit a maximum this week.

The Raven stay in pole position in division one of the Harborne and District Summer League and maintain their opening 100% record with a 6-3 success over Hobsons Choice. With six points from the first three games Raven have a two points lead over Smethwick Labour, who beat Allens Cross 8-1, and Midland Red who have a match in hand.

It’s close in division two where three teams, Cock Inn, Coopers Arms and the Pheasant are all on six points from four games. All three teams chalked up 7-2 victories, the Cock Inn beat Travellers Rest, Coopers Arms accounted for Old Mill ’A’ and the Pheasant won against the Quinborne.

Bartley Green Social Flights lead the field in division three, a 5-4 win over Highlander giving them a total of six points from four fixtures. However, WC WMC and Greenlands Social are both two points behind with two games in hand.

The Sheldon and District Winter League have been playing off the semi-finals and finals of their Punch Bowl and Sheldon Shield Knockouts. First the punch Bowl in which both semi’s finished 7-2, Three Horse Shoes and Highwood getting the better of respective opponents Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Iron Horse. The title went to Highwood with a 6-3 result. Derek Fardon (Three Horse Shoes) was named player of the final.

In the last four of the Sheldon Shield EBAHA had a 6-3 win over Shard End RBL and joining them in the final was Hen and Chickens, who took out Glebe Community Centre with a close 5-4 verdict. The final was also a close call with EBAHA just getting the edge.
