West Midlands will also be in action this weekend commencing their second term in division three after just missing out on promotion last season. They will be hoping for better luck in this campaign and will be looking for a win in their first match, which is a home tie against Merseyside.

----------------------------------

For the second consecutive week Gordon Clinton and Robert Earl have drawn each other in the ’A’ knockout of the Brookmeadow Knockout League. Both players hit a maximum, but it was sweet revenge for Earl after losing last week it was he who got this week’s 3-1 win. However, he made his exit in the next round when John Whitehouse beat him 3-1. John then lost 3-2 in the final to last week’s ’B’ knockout winner Ricky Lawrence.

In the ’B’ knockout it was Trevor Frost who got the maximum six points with a final 2-1 win over M.Showering.

In the overall league positions, Ricky Lawrence is now in pole position with 16 points, with Gordon Clinton and John Goodman just two points behind him.

Queens were the only winners in division one of the Tamworth Cue Sports Summer League this week. A 5-3 result has taken Queens in to second place two points behind leaders Globe, who could only draw 4-4 at the Winniing Post. White Lion v Red Lion ’B’ and Dolphin v Two Gates Club also finished all square at four each.

In division two there was a similar story as top team Red Lion ‘A’ were held to a 4-4 draw by Third placed three Horse Shoes. Cue Sports take over the number two spot with their convincing 7-1 success against the Boot (Grendon).

----------------------------------

It could not be any closer at the top of the Small Heath Summer League, with no fewer than four teams contesting the title after nine games. Station Hotel head the table with 14 points following their massive 8-1 win at Victoria Flights. Then come McVeighs (who beat Victoria 301 Club 5-4), Victoria 301 Club and Custard House all on 12 points. However, Custard House have two games in hand on all of the teams above them and wins in those games would see them go two points clear of the field.

Top shot of the week was provided by Paul Wilding (Victoria Flights). Despite his side’s heavy defeat Paul still managed to hit a ton plus a magnificent 180.
