Kingstanding Ex Servicemen’s Club, lost ground in the title race for the Four Oaks and District League when they travelled to take on Good Hope Flights and returned with a close 5-4 defeat. Despite the win Good Hope have been knocked off pole position by Midland Red, who had a 7-2 success at Hardy Spicer, which gives them a two points average advantage over Good Hope. A. Mountford was in top form for Old Oscott WMC has he recorded scores of 100,139,117, breaks of 112 and 152 and returned two games in ten darts. Nevertheless, it was not enough for his side to avoid going down 5-4 at home to Rose and Crown, their first win of the campaign. C.Vickers chalked up a maximum for his team Hill Social as they beat Old Oscott Arrows 6-3.

The Harborne and District Summer League have been rounding off their season with various cup matches. First the singles knockout in which Lance Hackett (Smethwick Labour Club) took the honours with a final straight 2-0 victory over Bartley Green F.C. man Steve Wenlock.

The doubles title went to the George pairing of E.Simpson and B.Cowan, with B.Hadley and G.Taylor from Smethwick Labour Club, the runners up.

The league’s 401 cup final went down to the wire. The George and Midland Red were all square on three each with one to play. Seasoned campaigner Peter Brotherton held his nerve to beat Brendan Cowan to give Midland Red the winners silverware with a very close 4-3 verdict.

On the fixture card for the G.U.L.P. Charity League was the first round of their doubles knockout. The round was staged at four venues. The winners at the Gunmakers Arms were C.Wyatt / J.Quigley, I.Nikiforiak / J.Taylor, at the Red Lion, P.Webster / A.Wilcock, J.Phipps / S.O’Brian. D.Tracy / A.Daly and Martin Cooper / R.Macken went through from the Victoria 301 Club and making up the last eight were J.Day / B.Mathews, C.Stokes / P.Wilding from Radleys.

The Small Heath League have been busy with their Charity Singles Knockout in which Custard House representative Darren Brown came up trumps to clinch the title with a final victory over Martin Cooper, who plays for Bromford Bridge Members Club ’A’.

Losing semi finalists were John McCaffery (Innisfree) and Steve Pacey (Bromford Bridge Members Club ’A’).

It was definitely a case of top playing bottom in division one of the Tamworth Cue Sports League as in the eight teams division the top four played against the bottom four. The result was wins for the leading four teams and as a result the league positions remain unchanged.

In division two Three Horse Shoes were quick to respond to last week’s defeat against Hopwas Club, replying in the best possible way with a resounding 8-0 win over the Glascote Club. However, the Shoes remain in second place, two points adrift of leaders Royal Oak, who won 6-2 at the Boot Inn.
