A LOOK BACK IN TIME - 16.06.2004
Midland Red continue to lead the division one table of the Harborne and District Summer League. In the latest round of fixtures the Red’s had a convincing 8-1 win over Allens Cross and in the process extended their 100% record to four wins. Second placed Smethwick Labour Club, who are two points adrift of the leaders won a close tussle with the Raven by 5-4, which was Raven’s first defeat of the campaign and they now drop to third place.
Ladywood Social had a good 7-2 win against the George, with R.Kinsella chalking up a maximum outshot of 170 and J.Merrick hitting a maximum score of 180.
In division two the Cock Inn and Coopers Arms share joint spot. Both teams are level on points and average. This week the Cock Inn beat the Pheasant 5-4, while Coopers, with a 180 from P.Mann won their home tie against Travellers Rest 6-3.Bartley Green Social Flights are top of the third division on eight points from five games, following this week’s 5-4 success against the Greenlands. However, second placed W.C.WMC Ladies are second, two points behind with tw games in hand.

The Sheldon and District Summer League got underway and the first fixtures produced no fewer than ten maximums. Supplying the maximum score were R.Taylor (RAFA), A.Caddick (Saltley Gardeners), G.Ferguson (British Telecom Club), C.Warrilow (Shard End RBL ’A’), T.C.Webster (Banbury Club), A.Spencer, M.O’Sullivan (Vaughans), R.Cheshire (Shard End RBL Flights), K.Jennings (Bromford Bridge Members Club) and M.Hill (Shard End Social).

E57, newly promoted to division one of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League, had a very encouraging result when they travelled to take on top of the table Greenland Arrows.The match went to 3-3, with C.Bayliss anchor man for Greenland’s taking on K.Tracey. This game also went the full distance with Bayliss just getting the 2-1 edge to the home team a very close 4-3 result. Stirchley United WMC have had better seasons, but things did not get any better in their latest game as Selly Oak Flights hande out a 5-2 defeat, despite Stirchley’s P.Conlon having a 160 break.
In division three Bournbrook Flights had a good win when they beat Tascos Flights 5-2, however, the best win of the division went to Solihull Municiple, a 7-0 whitewash over Moseley Cricket Club.

Victoria 301 Club in addition to winning their opening match against Innisfree by 7-2 in the Small Heath Summer League also had a couple of their players produce some top form. G.Naylor had a 160 break and an eight darts leg and his team mate, M.Brown, recorded a maximum. Custard House beat Gunmakers Arms 8-1 as did Ward End Ex Service Club in their tie with Victoria Flights.
McVeighs claimed their game 9-0as the Station Hotel failed to turn up.

Another league to get their season off to a fine start was the Tamworth Cue Sports League. In division one the biggest wins of 6-3 were supplied by the Globe and Dolphin, who in turn defeated Winning Post and Two Gates Club. Terry Stubbs hit a 180 for the Dolphin.
In the second division it was closer as the best win was 5-3, Red Lion ’A’ accounting for Three Horse Shoes. In the other two games played Boot (Grendon) and Kettlebrook had 4-4 draws with respective opponents Cue Sports Club and Jolly Sailor.
