A LOOK BACK IN TIME - 19.11.2003

There were plenty of high scores in division one of the Harborne and District Winter League this week, the tie between Midland Red and New Inns containing no fewer than twenty three, three figure scores, with the former hitting seventeen of them. Despite the big difference in high scores the all-important result was much closer with Midland Red just getting the 4-3 edge.

J Kearns (Quinborne Social Club) had a 160 break plus a score of 180, but his team finished on the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline at Smethwick Labour Club. S.Pasetti (WC WMC) was in a similar situation as he recorded a maximum in his sides 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Hillyfields outfit. That certainly was not the case in division two where K.Heskins (Coopers Arms) chalked up a maximum in a straight 7-0 win over Stonehouse Flights. Cock Inn were not far behind as they accounted for Bartley Green Social Flights with a 6-1 verdict.

----------------------------------

In the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League J.Sidwell recorded an eight darts leg in a 6-3 win by his team Highwood against EBAHA. T.Kelly (Three Horse Shoes) had a 149 checkout as the Shoes beat Fordbridge Social 7-2

Division One’s Solihull Borough FC, with a 180 from C.Busby returned from the Harvester with a 5-4 win. That was the margin by which all of the division one winners won by, Lea Hall Sports and Social, Millhouse, Shard End Social and the Raven at the expense of Pavilions, Glebe Community Centre, Dovecote and Vaughans.

Banbury Club were the top scorers in the second division beating Yardley Ex Service 8-1. There was a 180 for L.Shannon as Victoria Social won at home by 5-4 over Sedgemere Flights whose P.Kilgallen hit a 171.

----------------------------------

The Mixed Doubles Knockout was on the agenda for the Small Heath Summer League and taking the title was Davina Atterbury and Mark Kane representing the league champions, Heartlands Club. Beaten finalists were D.O’Sullivan and Chris Stoked from the Victoria 301 Club.

Reaching the last four were Sheila Carter and Dave Carter (Antelope) and Sarah Hudson and Neil Parsonage (Black Horse).

Hotshots on the night were P.Webster (Great Western), with a 137 finish, Neil Parsonage who scored a maximum and Mark Kane with his 160 break.

----------------------------------

There were wins for the top three teams in division one of the Longwood league. Leaders Dolphin had a 5-3 home success against the Two Gates Club, to make it three wins in as many games. Second placed Winning Post also kept up their 100% record with a 6-2 win against the Plough and Harrow, while the Globe, currently third two points adrift of the leading pqir, won an important match against their nearest rivals, White Lion by 5-3.

There is no change at the top of the second division as the top two teams, Queens ‘A’ and Queens ‘B’ finished all square at 4-4 to keep them level on points with the ‘A’ side just one leg to the good to give them pole position.
