A LOOK BACK IN TIME - 25.08.2004
This week Glebe Community centre provided two maximums, one each from J.Evans and T.Bunting in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League. However, the all-important 5-3 result went in favour of their hosts Saltley Amateur Gardeners. Another player to hit a 180 and finish on the losing side was S.Hazlett, from the Millhouse. Hazlett and his team mates were playing in group four at the Banbury Club and went down 6-2.
There was a maximum for each team in group six, when Yardley Ex Service Colts entertained Sedgemere Flights. For the home team D.Wright found the three treble twenties while for the visitors it was E.Foster. The 5-3 verdict went in Yardley’s favour.
Biggest win of the week went to group five’s Shard End Social, who defeated Sheldon Shoes 7-1.

Division one of the Harborne and District Summer League produced a clash of the Titans this week when second place Raven squared up to third in the table Smethwick Labour Club. Throughout the match there was a 160 break for Raven’s B.Davenport, plus 180’s for the visitors from F.Johnson and V.Gould. As expected the result was close, with the 5-4 margin going to Raven to give them 16 points from ten games, Smethwick having 12 from nine. Leaders Midland Red have also only played nine, but have 18 points.
In division two, Avenue Social played at home against Quinborne Flights. M.Jagger had a 160 break for the home team, but it was not enough to stop divisional leaders Quinborne chalking up a 6-3 win.
Bartley Green Social Flights had a 6-3 win over Stonehouse in the third division. However, they have played two more games than WC WMC Ladies, who are in pole position on the same 16 points as Bartley Green.

The Small Heath Summer League have been engaged in a couple of their knockouts, first the Delegates Knockout. With a final win over Neil Parsonage from the Gunmakers Arms, Martin Cooper, representing Ward End Ex Service Club won the title in group one. Station Hotel’s Mark Kane won the group two crown, with Kevin Maloney (Custard House) the runner up. The group three title went to John McCaffrey (Innisfree), he beat K.Jennings (Station Hotel) in his final.
Winning the ladies knockout was Mo Jennings from the Station Hotel. Jean Forde (Innisfree) was the losing finalist, while the two players to make their exits in the last four were Carol Stanton (McVeighs) and Deedee O’Sullivan (Victoria Flights).

Round one of the Challenge Cup Knockout was on the agenda for the Tamworth Cue Sports League. Progressing through to round two were Red Lion ’A’, Boot (Warton), Kettlebrook and Boot (Grendon), at the expense of Cue Sports Club, Mercian, Three Horse Shoes and Jolly Sailor.

Division three of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League provided a thriller this week, when the two Bournbrook’s played each other. Third in the table Bournbrook Flights took on top of the table Bournbrook Arrows. The result was touch and go all through the match and no decision was reached until the very last leg of the very last game. Playing for Flights was Anthony McMahon, who faced up to Arrows man Vernon Witherford. McMahon forced his opponent to a deciding leg but then lost out at the last hurdle and Arrows got the 4-3 win.
In division one John Coggins hit a maximum as his side, Stirchley United WMC, defeated Yardley Wood 4-3.
