Peter Staite and Chris Busby (Harvester) are the new Forest of Arden league men’s doubles champions. A final 2-1 victory over Highwood Arrows representatives Paul Nunn and Chris John in the final gave the Harvester duo the title.

In the ladies doubles knockout Noreen Harris and Claire Barber from Hobs Meadow took the honours. Again the final score was 2-1 with Alice Malin and Pat Parker (Old Bill and Bull) finishing as runners up.

It’s still very much the Steve Dwyer story in the Belgrave Social Individual League. Two further straight 3-0 wins against Dawn Barnes (in which Dwyer hit two maximums) and Derek Fardon, gives Dwyer a total of 56 points, three more than second placed Scott Mitton who beat Derek Mountjoy 2-1 and Carl Winters 3-0.

Other players to hit a 180 this week were Steve Cain, Mick Bagley and Robert Mills.

----------------------------------

Raven hold on to their number one spot in division one of the Harborne and District Summer league after a 6-3 win at the Hillyfields. However, Midland Red, who are two points adrift of the leaders are still unbeaten and have two games in hand.

Despite not having a fixture this week, Smethwick Labour Club stay in pole position in the second division, two points ahead of Hobsons Choice who won 6-3 at home to Avenue Social.

The league’s only maximum was hit by division three’s B.England (Coopers Arms) in his side’s 7-2 win over Highlander Flights.

----------------------------------

Gate Inn lost ground in the division one title race in the Longwood league when they went down 5-3 away to Red Lion ’A’. As a result leaders Dolphin have now opened up a two points lead with their 5-3 win at the Globe.

It remains very tight at the top of division two, with Plough and Harrow’s 5-3 win against Jolly Sailor keeping them just ahead on average of Two Gates Club, who had an 8-0 result against Kettlebrook.

----------------------------------

On the agenda for the Sheldon and District Summer league has been the first round of the Mrs F.Richman Trophy. Biggest winners were three Horse Shoes who with a 7-0 scoreline accounted for Glebe Community Centre Flights. There were 180’s for, A.Moss (Old Bill and Bull) in their 4-3 win at British Telecom Club, C.Busby (Solihull Borough FC) who lost 6-1 as hosts to Banbury Club and R.Vann (Shannons) in a 5-2 win against Millhouse. Best checkout of the round went to Pavilions R.Agar, a tremendous maximum checkout of 170. His team didn’t do too badly either, they won 4-3 at Iron Horse.

Other teams through to round two are, Rave, Shard End RBL Flights, Yardley Ex Service, Glades, Malt Shovel, Lea Hall Sports and Social, Glebe Community Centre, RAFA, Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Sheldon Heath Dukes and Sheldon and Marlboro Club.

----------------------------------

This coming Saturday the Sheldon and District Winter League will be staging their annual presentation dance at the league’s headquarters, Lea Hall Sports and Social Club. Admission is by ticket only at a cost of £2.00 each. Proceedings will get underway at 8-00pm. I can personally guarantee a great evening as a few years ago I had the honour of presenting the prizes and it was a fantastic night.
