Despite a brave fight by Hobsons Choice, Midland Red, with a 5-4 result maintained their udefeated record in division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League. Helping Red to their win was Tom McGlone who recorded a maximum. Dave Marshall (Highlander) was another player to score a 180. However, his team were not so fortunate as they went down 6-3 in their away game against a stylish George team. An eleven darts leg from P.Blades was not enough to save Bartley Green F.C as the lost at home 6-3 to the Hillyfields.
It’s as you were at the top od division two, Kings Highway stretching their unbeaten run with a convincing 8-1 verdict at Stonehouse Ladies.Second placed Stores went one better as they beat Highlander ladies 9-0. Avenue Social also handed out a 9-0 whitewash as they accounted for Stonehouse flights.Bartley Green Social Flights had a fine 6-3 win over Village Stump, I.Butler breaking with 160.

There were mixed fortunes for Dave Shorthouse, reigning champion and current leader of the Minworth Social Individual League as he beat Mark Slater 3-0 and then lost by the same scoreline to Richie Shenton. With a further 3-0 success against Gordon Clinton, Shenton has now taken over the second spot, and with 80 points is just four adrift of Shorthouse.
It was maximums galore as no fewer than fourteen were scored this week. Derek Fardon set the pace as he hit two in his 3-0 win over Paul Burnham. Darren White hit one in each of his games against Brian Brooks and Lee Griffiths, while the others were hit by Tony Whitehouse, Richie Baker, Dave Shorthouse, Richie Shenton, John Ainsworth, John Turner, Steve Brindley, Steve Cain, Lee Griffiths and Derek Mountjoy.

In group one of the Sheldon and District Summer LeagueT.Randell hit a 180 as Stechford Social beat Mackadown Social 5-3, in group two the match between Brook Meadow saw the former win 5-3. In the game D.Mortiboys hit a 180 and M.Elkin chalked up a maximum finish of 170. Group three’s M.Powers also found the three treble twenties as Shard End Social Flights beat Dovecote 5-3.

In round one of the Sheldon League’s Mrs F.Richman Trophy group one leaders Three Horse Shoes were top scorers as they beat Mackadown Social 6-2. Stechford Social won 5-3 at home to Iron Horse, the game contained maximums for both F.Ensell and A.Grainger. In group two Sheldon Social Dukes had a massive 8-0 win at the Malt Shovel (M.Hicks 180). Lea Hall RBL and Brook Meadow finished all square (T.Healy 180).
7-1 was the margin by which group three’s Shard End Social Flights beat Solihull Whingers (R.White 180), while Hobs Meadow and Dovecote were unable to find a winner as they drew 4-4 (R.Taylpr 180).
P.Yardley was top scorer in group five, another 180 as Farringdon and Victoria ended their game at four each.

There was a top of the table clash in division one of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League when second placed and undefeated Stirchley United WMC travelled to take on Austin Sports and Social who were third. With the help of a 180 from B.Thomas, Stirchley romped to a 5-2 victory. Tascos ‘B’ who have played one game more than Stichley hold on to their pole position thanks to a 10 darts leg by T.Hill and a 6-1 win against Selly Oak Flights. However, the are only top on average as they have already lost one of their fixtures.
In division two leaders Greenlands, despite a nine darts leg from P.James suffered a shock 4-3 defeat at Caledonian Corks, who are fourth in the table.
The league staged their men’s and women’s singles knockouts at the Bournbrook and Selly Oak Social Club. From an entry in excess of fifty B.Thomas (Stirchley United WMC) won the men’s title with Greenlands P.James runner up. The ladies crown went to Lesley Newcombe, another Greenlands representative she beat Dingle’s Paula Draper in the final.

Congratulations to KCA on winning the Aston League’s Knockout Cup. Playing against league and Vesey Sports Cup champions, Heartlands, KCA took full advantage of their opponents missed doubles to clinch a 7-2 win to add to their Aston Cup title.
