Both of our local counties, Warwickshire and West Midlands finished the year in style as they romped to 20-16 and 24-12 victories in their home games in the BDO Inter Counties Championships. Warwickshire took on Hampshire at the Belgrave Sports and Social Club, Tamworth. Both men’s teams had 7-5 wins, with Tom Ryan (30.93) and Peter Rouse ((28.00) taking the respective ‘A’ and ‘B’ match awards. There were mixed fortunes for the ladies as the ‘A’ side won 4-2, Trina Gulliver (25.00) there top player and the ‘B’ going down by the same scoreline, Claire Barber (20.04) was the ‘B’ teams award winner.
West Midlands played hosts to Shropshire at Gilberts Bar, Willenhall. They continued their fine start to the season by making it four consecutive wins to keep them top of the promotion table on 104 points, a lead of sixteen points on their nearest rivals Gwynedd. In turn the men’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ won 9-3 and 8-4, while the ladies ‘B’ won 5-1 and the ‘A’ finished on the wrong side of a 4-2 verdict. Award winners were Darren Williams (26.84), Dave Evans (25.24), Kath Jenkins (19.02) and Gill Cook (16.19).

There were shocks for a couple of players at the top of the Belgrave Individual League this week as early leader Andy Hanslow lost 2-1 to Gary Mills and third placed Mark Hollyoake went down by the same margin to Ricky Lawrence. Martin Brown and John Green were in a high scoring mood as they each hit two maximums against their respective opponents Colin Farrington and Mark Slater. Peter Guesford, Mick Smith, Colin Farrington and Mark Slater all hit a 180.

Only two points separate the top four teams in the Forest of Arden Winter League. Highwood Arrows are in pole position, stretching their 100% record to seven games with a 7-2 success over Hobs Meadow Mixes. Then, with just one defeat comes Hobs Meadow, who beat Three Horse Shoes 5-4, Highwood, who had a 6-3 win at Mackadown Social and Glades, whose A.Savage recorded a 160 break in their 6-3 win against Farringdon Social. Farringdon and Old Bill and Bull are the only teams without a win so far.

The early pacestter in the Small Heath League is the Heartlands Club with four wins in as many games. Their latest fixture was at home to another previously unbeaten team, Custard House. The result Heartlands ran out 5-4 winners. Biggest win went to the Gunmakers, who with a 6-3 result accounted for Ward End Ex Service Club.
Latest winners in the league’s Dartt’o Game are, 1st 591 (serial number AC452994) £24, 2nd 924 (serial number AB811505) £15 and 3rd 833 (serial number JP58428) £10.

Fordbridge Social were in top form in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League, with a 180 from P.Stevens, a 160 break by J.Pears and a 131 checkout from P.Burnham in their 8-1 win against newly promoted Hobs Meadow. Three Horse were also 8-1 winners in their tie with Iron Horse.There was a 180 from J.Ardron (Hen and Chickens) despite his side losing 5-4 at St Annes, while P.Nunn (Highwood) had the week’s best finish of 149 in a 6-3 win against Sheldon Heath Dukes.
In division one Solihull Borough F.C’s P.Franks had a 160 break in a 6-3 home win over Shard End RBL. A 119 finish for D.White (Shard End RBL Flights) did little to help his team as they finished on the receiving end of a 9-0 whitewash from Horse Shoes.

The newly formed H.O.P.E. fundraising squad, had a great night at the Good Hope Social Club, where they raised a terrific amount of £781, of which £457 was donated to Nikki Stanton, which together with £560 already donated by Cadbury workers, will go towards buying Nikki an electric wheelchair the other £324 from the night will be go to local Birmingham hospitals for various medical equipment anyone wanting the H.O.P.E. squad to raise funds for their charity should speak to Bill Morris 0n 07977-933030
