In the Harborne and District Winter League premier division, leaders Wernley have had their winning run brought to an end. Playing at home to Londonderry, the hosts finished on the wrong side of a 5-4 scoreline. It was not the same story in division one as Bartley Green Social Club retained their unbeaten record with a convincing 8-1 away win over Hillyfields ‘A’.
Stonehouse, leaders of division two, staged a magnificent fightback against Travellers Rest. The match, staged at the Travellers, saw the home team storm to a 4-3 advantage. However, Stonehouse, with a 160 break from N.Parker, kept their nerve to finish 5-4 winners. Second placed Village Stump had a 9-0 success against Highlander ladies while Quinborne, who are chasing the top two won 6-3 against the Vine.
The league will be holding a delegates meeting at their headquarters, Hillyfields, Quinton Road, this coming Sunday at 11-00am. All clubs should be represented. One week later at the same venue the Harborne 401 Summer League will hold their A.G.M, again at 11-00am. All teams, old and new are invited to attend

In division one of the Sheldon and District Winter League, J.Pears (Three Horseshoes) recorded a 160 break as his team romped to an 8-1 victory over Chelmsley Conservative Club in round one of the league cup. In the same division M.Hicks hit a maximum as his team, Sheldon Heath Dukes lost 5-4 at the Kinghurst Labour Club.

Red Lion recorded a 9-0 whitewash over Aston Social in the Amber Windows League with their J.Morris hitting a 180 in the process. D.G.Bond was another player to find the three treble twenties, however his team the Mitre lost 6-3 at home to the Bagot Arms. King Edward V11 had a clear 7-2 win away to Kynoch Social, while Vauxhall Social won 6-3 at the Yew Tree despite a twelve darts game by S.Deery.

No fewer than 60 players turned out at the Belgrave Sports and Social Club,Tamworth to take part in the Warwickshire Mens Super League Alf Baker Singles. The semi finals saw two Midland Red players, Mark Hollyoake and Mangal Singh drawn against each other with the latter getting the 3-1 result. In the final Singh took on Tamworth’s Gary Podmore, who had accounted for Carl Betteridge (Birmingham Old Wharf) in his semi.
The final went the full five legs distance with Singh taking the title by the odd leg.

The Warwickshire Youth’s have been in action taking on Montgomery and Radnor. In the under 18 male event Warwickshire kept a clean sheet winning 9-0 with David Harris (25.79) taking the match award. Warwickshire also won the under 21 Ladies event. Vicky Franklin, with an average of 15.41 the lady of the match as the team won 2-1. Steve Sharpe, with a super 27.08 average took the under 21 male team average as the local county made it three out if three wins by beating their counterparts 3-2.

With only two remaining fixtures in the Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League, a 15-6 win over Ward End has virtually guaranteed Selly Park the title. With 173 points the leaders are 25 ahead of their nearest rivals Northfield, who had an 11-10 victory against third in the table Sheldon. Handsworth were also 11-10 winners in their match with Perry Barr.

The Forest of Arden Winter League played their Presidents Cup final at the Harvester. Contesting the final were Silver Wings and Red Arrows, the latter continuing their impressive season with a 7-2 victory.
In the semi finals of the consolation cup Ivor Walshaw (Sheldon Ivy Leaf) had a 160 break as his team won 6-3 against Mackadown Social, whose Chris Vann also had a 160 break. In the other semi Hunters Moon just got the edge on the Cornerstones, taking them out with a 5-4 scoreline.

It is hoped both league’s, which will be staged at the Vauxhall Club, Neachells, Birmingham, will have at least sixteen players and will get underway very soon.
