Avenue Social provided this week’s Houdini act in division one of the Harborne 401 Summer league as they fought back from a 4-2 deficit to snatch a 5-4 victory. Avenue Flights were too strong for Brook ‘A’ running out as 7-2 winners. Plough,Highlander and Raven all won 5-4 against respective opponents Monarch,Cock Flights and Old Crown.
Hillyfields continued their winning ways in division two with an 8-1 success against Highlander Ladies, Village Stump recording a similar margin victory over the Vine.

Harborne ladies will be taking on the Mercury Ladies Charity Team at the Hillyfields, Quinton Road on Saturday 26th September. The following players are requested to attend at 8-00pm, L.Grant, L.Howell (Avenue Social),L.MacDonald, S.Mulliss (Hillyfields), P.Corbett, E.Startin (Vine), P.Cuthill (Travellers Rest), D.O’Neill (Hobsons Choice), S.Gavin, T.Wykes (Highlander), M.Goode, W.Roberts (Raven). Matchplay will commence at 8-30pm.

The Sheldon and District Summer League have been engaged in the finals of their Mrs F.Richman Trophy. Both the semi finals and the final went to the wire all finishing 4-3.
Punchbowl and Sheldon Dukes were the winners of the semi’s at the expense of Silver Wings and Three Horseshoes respectively. In the thrilling seven game final it was Punchbowl who gained the advantage and ultimately the title. Player of the final was Sheldon’s Ken Grimes.

Stirchley United Social Club extended their unbeaten run to twelve games in division one of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League with a convincing 6-1 away win over COBS. With only four fixtures remaining to the end of the season Stirchley are well on course for taking the title without losing a single match.
Stichley were also on form in the semi final of the Bob Price Memorial Trophy as they chalked up a 5-2 success against Springfield.
The league staged their doubles knockout at the Bournbrook & Selly Oak Sports & Social Club. Taking the top prize were Greenlands representatives D.Underhill and T.Davies with Stirchley’s K.Mason and D.Barry finishing as runners up.

In the Acocks Green Summer League leaders Tyseley W.M.C. sufferred a massive setback to their title hopes as they went down 5-4 at home to the Brewer and Baker. Brewer have now completed the double over Tyseley and that is no mean feat when they have lost only one other fixture and that was to Journeys End.
In the other matches played Plume and Feathers defeated Britannia Arrows 7-2 and Journeys End won 6-3 against the Railway.
