Highlight of the week in the Acocks Green Winter League was the 170 maximum checkout by Red Rooster’s Karl Bunce. Playing at home Karl produced his perfect finish in his team’s 6-3 win over Tyseley Staff. The other Tyseley, the WMC, who are currently top of the table, returned to winning ways after their surprise defeat at the hands of the Brewers Arms with an 8-1 win at the Plume of Feathers. Third placed Shirley Legion were also 8-1 winners as they beat the Moonraker in a home tie.

There was a top of the table clash in the Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League when top team Selly Park took on second placed Northfield. The result was a 12-9 success for the leaders giving them a total of 158 points, 21 more than Northfield. Despite the defeat it was Northfield’s Sylvia Kimberlee who produced the fixture’s top performance hitting not only 5x100,120,125 and 140 but also a magnificent 180.
The other two games played finished in 14-7 wins for Handsworth and Ward End, who in turn accounted for Sheldon and Perry Barr.

It’s as you were at the top of the Forest of Arden Winter League. Leaders Red Arrows travelled to the Highwood, returning with a 7-2 win under their belts, plus a 180 by Brian Allen and breaks of 146 and 149 from J.Daly and R.South respectively. Reigning champions and currently second in the table Hobs Meadow, also had an away fixture. They defeated Heart of England with a similar 7-2 scoreline.

Northfield consolidated their pole position in the Warwickshire Ladies Super League with a convincing 6-1 win away to Birmingham East..

The annual Jimmy James Memorial Shield was staged at the Greenlands Social Club, Longbridge. Both semi finals finished with 2-0 scorelines. Paul James and Ken Northcott defeating Brian Cox and Brian Andrews to set up a final between two super league players. The extended final was also a straight legs win as Paul James stormed to a 3-0 victory.
The event raised a total of £125 which will be donated to the Childrens Acorn Hospice, Selly Oak.

A 9-0 whitewash was what the Yew Tree Colts chalked up on their visit to Aston Social in the Amber Windows League. Old Oscott Social were not too far behind as they won 8-1 at the King Edward V11 despite a maximum from the home teams G.Nicholls. Red Lion were another team to win away as they beat Kynoch Social 7-2. Bagot Arms were the only team to win at home this week as they won 5-4 against Seventh Trap

There was a surprise in the West Midlands Men’s Super League as Halesowen, who were joint leaders with Wednesfield, went down 6-3 at Bloxwich. Wednesfield’s game with Burntwood was called off amd as a result Tipton, who won 6-3 at home against Ocker Hill have taken over the number one spot with 44 points, four more than Halesowen with a game in hand.
