Highwood head divison ‘A’ of the Forest of Arden Summer League with four points. In their latest fixture they won 6-4 at home to Silver Wings. Despite the defeat Wings are joint second on three points with Harvester who lost their encounter with another third placed team, Red Arrows, by 7-3. In the match Harvester’s B.Devoy chalked up the league’s first maximum of the campaign.
Heart of England ‘A’ and ‘B’ are top of division ‘B’ on three points. This week’s games saw the ‘B’ side win at home against Old Bill and Bull by 6-4.

Selly Park suffered their first defeat of the season in the Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League when they went down 13-8 to Sheldon. Nevertheless Selly Park maintain their pole position with 134 points, thanks again to the tremendous display by Lesley Newcombe who hit an amazing 10x 100,120,121 and 2x140. Northfield take over the number two spot after beating bottom of the table Perry Barr 18-3. Joyce Webster (Northfield) hit 2x125,100, 121 and checked out on 144, (two treble twenties and double twelve), the highest finish of the season so far. Handsworth drop to third place, losing their joint second position because they could not match Northfield’s win, they beat Ward End 15-6.

Janet Dudley lost a little ground on the leading pair in the Birmingham Ladies Double Top League. She won her first game against Mo Bostock 2-1 but then failed in her encounter with Lucy Hart by the same score. Janet with 50 points is now two adrift of second placed Angie Bourne who had a 2-1 win against Kay Chambers and a 3-0 success over Sheila Smith. Leader Joyce Webster strengthened her claim on the title winning both of her games 3-0 at the expense of Sheila Smith and Julie James to give her a total of 58 points.

In division three of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League, fourth placed Solihull Municipal produced something of a surprise. It was not so much the result, but the margin of their win, 6-1, against Longbridge Bar, who are just above them in the table. Their was a similar situation in division one where Stirchley United WMC beat Brunswick Tascos 6-1. Biggest win went to Kings Norton RBL Cobs, also of divison one, they whitewashed Caledonian Corks 7-0. Stirchley’s P.Donachie scored a 180.

Round one of the Mrs F.Richman Trophy was on the agenda for the Sheldon and District Summer League. Highlights of the round were provided by Hobs Meadow (Group 6) who had a great 6-1 win over Harvester (Group 3) and Hay Mills Social (Group 5) who beat Gables (Group 3) 5-2. S.Hunt (Sheldon Dukes, Group 1) saved his teams blushes when he won the decider against Shard End Social (Group 5) in a very close game. Lea Hall Mixed are unbeaten in the league in group six and only narrowly lost out by 4-3 to group one’s Sheldon Heath Social as J.Randell earned Sheldon the result.
Individual performances came from P.Blizzard (Lyndon Arrows), K.Moloney (E.B.A.H.A.) and T.Randell (Sheldon Heath Social) who all notched a 180. J.Sabell (Shard End Social) checked out on 154, Tipsy Gent’s T.C.Webster going one better with his 155 finish. M.Birch (E.B.A.H.A.) recorded an eleven darts game while his team mate A.Caddick took just ten darts.
The league’s next meeting will be held at the league headquarters Lea Hall RBL on Sunday 11th July at 10-30am. All teams should be represented.
