A 180 from Brian Twist helped Red Arrows to a 7-3 win at Solihull Borough Flights in division ‘A’ of the Forest of Arden Summer League. The first round of the Mrs F. Richman Trophy was on the Sheldon and District Summer League agenda. Biggest shock of the round was provided by division five’s Victoria Social Club. Victoria’s opponents, division three’s Dovecote, opened up a commanding 3-1 lead. However, the outsider’s took the last three games to win 4-3. A.Powell and P.Yardley were the stars for Victoria. M.Turner (Old Bill and Bull) hit a maximum but could not help his team to victory against top of the league Three Horse Shoes. For the second time in three meetings so far this season Solihull Borough Whingers beat Shard End RBL, the score 6-2. Two 140’s for B.Miles and M.Gorste helped Hobs Meadow to a convincing 5-2 win over BCS Club.
Other winners from round one are, Plume of Feathers, Stechford Social, Glebe Community Centre, Mrook Meadow, KDLC, Iron Horse, Shard End Social, Sheldon Heath Dukes and Shard End Social Flights.

No change at the top of the Small Heath Summer League as the two top teams, Sheldon Heath Flights and Saltley Flights both chalked up convincing wins. Leaders Sheldon had a 7-2 win at Montgomery’s to give them a maximum 10 points from five games. Meanwhile, Saltley won 8-1 away to bottom of the table Red Hill to put them level on eight points with Black Horse who had a bye.

A 160 break by D.Smith (Hillyfields) was his teams only highlight as they went down 6-3 at home to Ladywood Social in division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League. In division two leaders Kings Highway kept their unbeaten run intact with a close 5-4 home win over Stores. No fewer than 33 tons were recorded in the match. G.Grant (Avenue Social) not only broke with 160 but also hit a 180 and 2x100. Unfortunately his team lost their home game against Stonehouse 6-3. I Butler was another player to hit a maximum to help Bartley Green Social Flights to an 8-1 win over Stonehouse Flights.

The Ace of Clubs charity team have been on their travels again as they took on terams from the Great Western and the Bromford Bridge Members Club. The team lost 7-3 at the Great Western but a terrific amount of £100 was raised which will be donated to the Princess Diana Birmingham Childrens Hospital. In the Bromford game again the hosts were the winners, this time 11-9. Nevertheless the event realised a fabulous total of £135, half of which will go to the Cash for Kids Appeal and the remaining half to the Heartlands Hospital Childrens Ward.
