Due to work commitments Luis Barberan has been unable to play in the C’s Club Double Top League recently, but he has now caught up with seven of his outstanding fixtures adding five 3-0 wins against Charlie Kingdon, Dan White, Steve Beale, Jamie Carter and a notable one whereby he handed current leader Neil Parsonage his first defeat in 26 games. In addition Barberan beat Mark Birch 2-1 and by the same scoreline lost to second in the table Jake Webster with both players hitting a maximum. These latest results have seen Barberan move up from fourteenth to fourth in the table and with 60 points from 23 games he has games in hand on all of the player above him. 3-0 wins in his three in hand on Parsonage would see him go joint top, level on points and average with the leader. The Small Heath League have got their new season underway and the early pacesetters are Heartlands Club who handed their visiting team Cob’s Bar an 8-1 defeat. Close behind Heartlands is Sheldon Marlborough Arrows who had 7-2 win at Emerald Club and making up the top three is Wagon and Horses who were 6-3 winners at Sheldon Marlborough Flights. Red Lion lost ground in their bid for the title in the Shirley and District Monday Night League when they suffered a huge 8-1 home defeat at the hands of the current leading side The Wharf. With six wins in as many games Wharf are now on 12 points and lead Cider House on average as they won 6-3 against Saracens Misfits to make it an undefeated six games for them. Third in the table Sharmans Sharks are also unbeaten, their 7-2 win over The Lodge putting them on 10 points from five games. It was week one of the new season in the South Birmingham League and leading group one with a 6-2 win over Mackadown Social is C’s Top Guns. Iron Horse and The Trident share the top spot in group two both teams winning 5-3 in turn against The Punchbowl and C’s Arrows. There was just one fixture played in group three in which Coleshill Social handed out an 8-0 whitewash to their hosts Yardley Flights. The Camp Hill League had the preliminary round of their League Cup on the fixture card in which there were no surprise results. Winning their way through to the last four were White Swan Nomads, Journeys End Lions and Sheldon Marlborough Flights who beat respective opponents North Star, Tyseley WMC and Sedgemere Devil’s Club. Wagon and Horses had a bye into the next round. Division one leaders in the Sutton and District Summer League The Boat increased their average and took their winning run to fourteen games when they added an 8-1 win over Oscott Social to their account. They continue to be four points ahead of second placed Golden Hind who won 6-3 away to fourth in the table Erdington Arrows. At the foot of the division Red Lion registered only their second win in fourteen when they beat the team just above them Drakes Drum to leave just a two point’s gap between the two teams. After their somewhat surprising 6-3 home defeat against Old Oscott Arrows last week Boldmere Tap were quick to return to winning ways as they won 8-1 at St Thomas Arrows to stay two points ahead of Pint Pot Flights who beat Old Oscott Arrows 8-1 giving them 22 points from 14 games one game less than Boldmere. There were a couple of unforeseen results in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League as seventh in the table Bridge (Kingswinford) lost 5-4 away to Crestwood who were some seven places below them and have moved one to thirteenth. Another surprise was the 7-2 home defeat of Britannia by Ashwood who in turn were fourth and sixth and have respectively moved to fifth and fourth in the table. No problem for leaders Brickmakers Arms whose 5-4 win at Bird (Stourbridge) keeps them two points to the good on both Ten Arches ‘A’ and Ten Arches ‘B’, the ‘A’ side winning 8-1 against Swan and the ‘B’ 6-3 at Old Cat (Wordsley). Former leaders of the Netherton Thursday Night League Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club suffered their fourth defeat in 17 games when they lost 5-4 away to White Horse who have won just five of the eighteen games. The Ex Serviceman’s Club hold on to second place with 39 points, but with a game in hand are now six behind leaders Riddins Tavern who added a 5-4 win over Fairfield to their tally. With 22 games played and only eight remaining in the Rowley Monday Night League only average separates the top two teams. Leaders George increased their average over The Bell with a 9-0 win at Windmills End while Bell were 7-2 winners at Hare and Hounds. Third in the league Cradley Liberal Club, with a 160 break from Alan Croft, kept their hopes of the title alive when they beat Whiteheath Tavern 7-2 to keep within two points of the leading duo. Tipton Sports moved another two points nearer the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League title when the won 4-3 away to Merry-Go-Round ‘B’. Two points is the difference between the second and fourth places with Dewdrop ‘A’ second on 44 points following their huge 7-0 win at Horseley Tavern, Island Inn and Waggon and Horses both have 42 points, the former winning 4-3 against Wonder while the latter went down by the same margin at The Vine who are placed fifth with 38 points. A close 4-3 win at Delph Bell was enough to keep Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ in pole position in the Brierley Hill Friday Night League with a two points lead over second in the table Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’ who had a vital 4-3 win at Old Star. As a result of their defeat Old Star lost their third place to Ashwood who beat Brickmakers Arms ‘B’ 6-1 to go two points clear of Old Star and level on 14 with Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’. With Studley Conservative Club’s game with Railway postponed in week 13 of the Henley and District League, Studley Cricket Club took full advantage to return to the top of the table with an 8-1 win away to Dorridge. The Cricket Club are now on 16 points from nine games while the Conservative Club have the same 16 points from eight games. The top five teams in the West Midlands Men’s Super League remain undefeated after the opening five fixtures. Allen’s Sports Bar ‘A’ top the table on average, their latest game saw them win 4-1 away to Bridgtown Social. One point behind Allen’s are Yeltz Bar and Cradley Liberal Club, Yeltz winning 5-0 against King Arthur and the Liberal Club beating Staffordshire Knot 4-1. Landywood and Woodside are the other two unbeaten teams, the former taking their points to 28, five off the top, with a 5-0 win over Horse and Jockey while Woodside, who are a further four points behind Landywood, beat Cabin with a similar 5-0 scoreline. The Forest of Arden Summer League played off the semi-finals of their Knockout Cup with the two Group ’A’ teams playing against Group ‘B’ sides but there was mixed results for the ‘A’ teams. Group ‘A’ leaders Journeys End beat their ‘B’ opponents C.s Shamrocks 6-3 while the other ‘A’ side Highwood Exiles lost to Group ‘B’ leaders Dunky’s Boys 7-2.
