In the preliminary round of the Four Oaks and District’s Coronation Shield last year’s semi-finalists Golden Hind opened up a 7-5 lead over Old Oscott Arrows but lost the final game 3-0 to give last year’s finalists an 8-7 victory. With The Boot and Oscott Social tied at 6-6 The Boot took the final game to give them an 8-6 win, their first success of the season. Brookvale Social and The Fox fought to the final leg of the last game which was won by Brookvale Social for a close 8-7 victory. The Boat and Royal Sutton Flights both cruised to 13-2 wins against respective opponents Pint Pot Flights and St Thomas’s Arrows while Bishop Vesey beat Erdington Arrows 14-1 but the biggest win of the round went to St Thomas’s Social Club a massive 15-0 win over Sutton Sports and Social. In its 73rd season the League has set a new record for 180’s recorded in a single week with ten maximums hit. The South Birmingham League had round one of their Knockout Cup on the fixture card the draw matching the two C’s teams from division two in which Arrows beat Flights 8-1. The all division one tie saw league leaders Erdington Members Club win by the same 8-1 margin against The Gate. It was cup semi finals week in the Forest of Arden Winter League and in the Consolation Cup Highwood supplied three of the four teams. Highwood Exiles had a 5-2 win over Highwood Arms and will now meet Highwood KB in the final after they beat The C’s 7-2. The Presidents Cup final will be an all Journeys End affair as Journeys End Flights won 5-4 against Greville Arrows and Journeys End beat Kingshurst Knights 8-1. Although Studley Cricket Club won their latest fixture against Wootton Bears in the Henley and District League 6-3 it was not enough for them to hold on to sole leadership of the league as rivals Studley Conservative Club had a 7-2 win over Wythall Legion to put them on the same points and average as the Cricket Club and they share pole position. Despite losing 6-3 Wootton Bears move up one place off the foot of the table as Beausale lost 7-2 to Dorridge and although like Wootton are without a point they now trail them by one leg of average. Week six in the Shirley and District Monday Night League saw leaders Red Lion ousted from their number one spot after losing 5-4 away to Solihull Sports and Social Club who are some five places below them. Taking over the top position is Highwood whose 9-0 win over Legion Royals not only maintains their 100% win record but also gives them a two points advantage over the rest of the field. Shirley Golf Club moved off the bottom of the table although they lost 5-4 at home to Drawbridge Bears as Plume of Feathers went down 9-0 at The Lodge and trail the Golf Club on average, both teams are with a win so far. Jim Frost lost for the first time in six games week in three of the Erdington Red Lion Double Top League, a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lewis Bayliss who is now in fourth place and only one point behind Frost who has dropped down to third in the table. Dean Bayliss has moved to the top of the table, he added a 3-0 win over Clive Austin and a 2-1 success against Matthew Cain to his tally to make it six wins in as many games and has amassed 15 points. Joining Bayliss in a joint top place is Will Naylor who is the only other player in the sixteen strong league to have won all of his six games. Naylor began the night with a 3-0 win over Lee Austin and then won 2-1 against John Frost to put him also on 15 points and level on average with Bayliss. After completing five fixtures Rugby top the Warwickshire Men’s Super League with 31 points, however second placed Coventry Bishopsgate are just one point adrift of Rugby and have a game in hand. Coventry Old Ball are third in the league, they too have a game in hand on the leaders but they are some ten points behind them.
Cubbington are leading the pack in the Warwickshire Ladies Super League, they have eight points from their five games and lead second placed Coventry Bishopsgate by one slender leg of average as they too are on eight points from five games.
The Small Heath League staged a top of the table clash in week three between leaders East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association and Heartlands Club. The outcome was a convincing 7-2 win for E.B.A.H.A. to put them two points clear of their rivals and take their unbeaten run to three games. Third in the table Sheldon Marlborough Flights were 6-3 winners at Emerald Club, they are the only other team in the league to have won all of their games but have only played two so far. The Brierley Hill Monday Night League have completed their domestic fixtures and with a final 7-2 win away to bottom of the table Limes Club, Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club have won the title with 50 points. Runners up Delph Bell also finished the campaign on 50 points after they also won their last game 7-2 at Lamp Tavern. League secretary Jack Pearson took time out to congratulate Sue Hadley captain of Dudley Ex Serviceman’s as since the league was first formed she was the first female captain to win the title. A 5-2 win at Tyseley WMC has seen Journeys End Lions make it two consecutive wins to top the Camp Hill League on average from Crown Jewels who had a close 4-3 verdict in their home tie with bottom of the table Devil’s Club. So far third and fourth placed Emerald Club and Wagon and Horses have both played one and won one, they are the only other unbeaten teams in the league. In the 301 league they won 6-1 against Darlaston Conservative Club putting them on 26 points two more than second in the table Nutan who were 5-2 winners against fourth placed Lanesfield RBL. The Netherton Thursday Night League staged the final of their League Cup which brough together the league’s champions Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club and runners up Riddins Tavern. As expected it was a great game played in a cracking atmosphere and in the right spirit between two excellent teams. The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League played the finals of their divisional cups the division one game bringing together local rivals Riley’s ‘B’ and Riley’s ‘C’. The result went in favour of the ‘B’ side beating their ‘C’ team and reigning champions 4-1. The division two final saw the singles league leaders Dog and Partridge lose 4-1 to Woodfield Social who are fifth in the same division. Leaders ECC ‘A’ took their points to 56 with a 5-2 win away to second in the table Whitmore Reans WMC in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League and leave Whitmore eight points behind them. The Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League produced a top of the table clash between leaders The Nutan and second placed Black Horse. The result was a 6-3 win for Nutan to give them a huge ten points advantage over their opponents. The South West Birmingham Clubs League staged round one of their Inter Divisional Percy Hinton Cup which produced a few shock results as Bartley Green FC ‘B’ who are bottom of division one without a point from their opening three games beat West Heath CEM who are third in the same division 5-3. Longbridge Flights had a surprising 5-4 win at West Heath Cobra and division two’s Stirchley Tascos beat Bournbrook who are second in the same division 5-4. Other winners to go through to the next round were Rubery RBL and Solihull Municipal, Perfection, Dingle and Longbridge United all had a bye. The ladies section played their week four games and Bournbrook Ladies took full advantage of Stirchley Nomads bye as they won 4-3 against Longbridge Ladies to take over in pole position with a two points lead over former leaders Stirchley.
