Adams howls with delight at Welsh Open whilst Fordham makes last thirty two
Andy Fordham had his best competitive run for several years making the last 32 by winning his board with 4 straight wins, where he lost 4 – 2 to event finalist Gary Robson.
With over 1000 entries The Welsh Open showed that it’s still one of the biggest Open events in the World, attracting the biggest names on the BDO circuit.
James Wilson lost to Gary Robson 4 -3 in a very tight quarter final, then home boy Martin Philips beat John Boy Walton 4- 2.
Martin Adams sunk Welsh hopes with a comfortable win over Steve Alker, and Scott Waites powered passed Martin Atkins 4 – 0.
World Champions Waites and Adams faced each other in the Semi Final with both players trading leg for leg with throw, but it was Adams who held his nerve for the narrowest of victories by 5 – 4.
Gary Robson ended hopes of a Welsh Win for Martin Philips in their Semi Final with a solid display quieting the home crowd with a 5 – 3 win.
The Final saw Adams continue his impervious form as he proved too much for Gary Robson, and roared to a 6 – 2 victory, his second title this year winning the Hal Open in March.
Martin Adams said "It’s great to win such a big event as The Welsh Open with over a thousand players, there are hard games in each round and I’m really happy that my form is getting back to where it should be”.
Wayne Williams Tournament Director said "We’ve had another superb event where the standard of darts has been superb right throughout, and it’s great to see the passion and commitment from all the players here in their desire to win the title”.
The BDO’s next event in the Race to Lakeside is The Polish Open on the 24th of May.
