Alan Towe - A Look Back in Time 2000-10-18

Something had to give in the fixture between Poachers Pocket and Cock and Hens in the Forest of Arden Winter league as prior to the match both teams were without a win. The 6-3 result went in favour of the home team, Poachers Pocket. Old Bill and Bull chalked up their first win of the season a 5-4 home success against Stechford Social.

At the other end of the table Hobs Meadow Mixes and Mackadown Social continued their 100% winning run with respective 6-3 and 7-2 wins over the Highwood and Warwick Aero. Silver Wings lost their undefeated record, going down 5-4 at the Red Arrows.

The Bass Breweries sponsored Minworth Social Individual League got their new season off to a bang. The opening two fixtures contained no less than TWELVE maximums, there was a 141 finish, a tremendous 170 maximum finish, plus 15, 2 x 14 and a 13 darts legs.

Hitting 180’s were Steve Cain (2), Derek Mountjoy (2), Gary Mills, Pat Koyce, Colin Farrington, Robbie Earl, Dennis Stokes, Karl Stephens, Jason Gilbert and Steve Shenton. Only three teams boast a 100% record in the Aston Manor League, Heartlands, K.C.A. and Queslett. Heartlands were the week’s biggest winners, an 8-1 verdict over King Edward on their home board. K.C.A. were not far behind with their 7-2 success at the Tennis Courts, while Queslett, also playing away, had a narrow 5-4 win at the Mitre.

There was a shock in the premier division of the Harborne and District Winter League when Midland Red went down 5-4 at home to Ladywood Social, despite a 160 break from G.Smith and a nine darts leg by D.Bourne, a feat emulated by Social’s M.Littleford. The George scraped home with a 5-4 win over an unlucky Raven team.

In division two Highlander had a comfortable 8-1 victory over Avenue Social, WC WMC ran out 7-2 winners against New Inns and Hobsons Choice and Golden Cup both won 6-3 againts in turn Harborne Stores and Stores ‘B’.

Village Stump turned on the style in the third division beating Stonehouse Flights 7-2.

It’s been a rewarding season for the Custard House in the Small Heath Summer League. Not only did they win the league championship but also the Knockout Cup. A 5-4 victory over the Black Horse gave them the title, despite a 160 break by G.Nabi for the runners up.

The Upside Down Cup was won by Saltley Flights. They had a much more convincing 7-2 win over the Bear.

----------------------------------

The Custard House was the setting for an attempt at scoring a “Million and One” by John Locley, Chris Mortlock, Tony Randell, Phil Randell, John Pears and Rob South. In a bid to raise funds for the Danny Ryan Heart Machine Appeal, the six players not only attempted but succeeded in their bid and raised a fabulous £1200 in the process. 47 hours and 54 minutes was the time taken by the team. Thanks go to helpers Sandra Lockley, Claire Mortlock, Karen Guest, Rachel Lucey, Becci Lucey and Mandy Guest.
