In the premier division of the Harborne and District Winter League, Wernley, with the aid of an eight darts leg from A.White romped to an 8-1 away win over Hillyfields ‘B’. P.Hewitt (Red Lion) was another player to record an eight darts game, however his team were not so fortunate as they lost at the Raven 6-3. Londonderry won what could be a very telling home game against reigning champions Cricketers 5-4.
Bartley Green Social Club were the biggest winners in division one, a 7-2 home win over Golden Cup, while their rivals Bartley Green Social Flights were close behind with a 6-3 success at the Brook.
The Harborne 401 Summer League staged the semi finals of their Knockout Cup and the two matches produced an absolute feast of three figure scores. The first of the encounters was between Wernley and Avenue Flights, in which there were no fewer than 48 tons or more. The final result, 6-3, going to Wernley.
Golden Cup and Raven did battle in the second of the semi’s and it was the latter who turned on the style, running out as 8-1 winners, with their B.Davenport hitting a maximum in the process.
Leaders of the Warwickshire Men’s Super League, Coventry Howitzers, kept their title hopes well on course with a 6-2 home win over Minworth. Second placed Birmingham Midland Red maintained their challenge with a 5-3 victory at home to Tamworth.
Warwick Town were the weeks biggest winners chalking up an 8-0 whitewash over Harborne Midland Red. In the other fixtures Birmingham Old Wharf and Coventry Bishopsgate had 5-3 wins against respective opponents Rugby and Kettlebrook Tamworth. Bedworth Banks beat Coventry Potters Green 6-2.
The preliminary round of the Forest of Arden Winter League Presidents Cup produced quite a shock. Last week in the league fixtures Hobs Meadow Mixes lost 5-4 at home to the Highwood. This week the two teams met again on the Highwood’s board and the Mixes won emphatically by 7-2.
Hobs Meadow were also in top form as they kept a clean sheet beating Heart of England 9-0. W.Mathews recorded a nine darts leg while his team mate M.Gorste went one better, going out in just eight darts.
As a result of their 18-3 win over Handsworth, Selly Park have moved into pole position in the Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League. Helping Selly Park to their win was Lesley Newcombe who notched 6x100,121,135 plus a 140. Making way for the new leaders was Northfield who despite beating Ward End 12-9 have dropped into second place four points adrift with 60 points.
Sheldon after winning 17-4 against Perry Barr have overtaken their opponents and moved into third place on 54 points six more than Perry Barr.
Old Oscott increased their lead at the top of the Amber Windows League with a 6-3 win against Kynoch Social. However Oscott were made to fight all the way after trailing at one stage by 3-2. Oscott top with ten points are four ahead of their nearest rivals. No fewer than six teams, King Edward V11, Mitre, Kynoch Social, Yew Tree, Old Wharf and Vauxhall Social have six points with only average seperating them.
Red Lion bounced back from defeat with a 9-0 win over Seventh Trap. Yew Tree after beating King Edward V11 in the league cup beat them again by 5-4 in the league. Mitre returned to winning ways with a 7-2 result against Aston Social.
