Alan Towe’s the Line - Warwickshire have a bumpy Ride
With an away game against reigning premier division champions Yorkshire, Warwickshire were not expecting an easy passage in their opening day fixture in the Riley’s BDO Inter County Championships, and it turned out to be something of a bumpy ride as they finished on the wrong side of a 23-13 result.
The men’s ‘A’ shared the spoils in a 6-6 score line with Noel Grant collecting the man of the match award for his 4-2 win over Dave Copley and 27.80 average. The ‘B’ suffered a massive 11-1 defeat, Tommy Ryan their sole winner on in the penultimate game against Brian Hallas winning 4-3 with a 28.26 average.
There were mixed fortunes for the ladies as the ‘B; side won 4-2, wins form Marian Conway, Wendy Adams, Louise Graham, lady of the match with a 23.11 average and Kim Morris. The scoreline was the same for the ‘A’ side but in reverse, Caroline Pike (16.98) lady of the match and Angela Jones their two winners. There was a rare defeat for Trina Gulliver, on at number one against Lorraine Farlam and losing 3-1.
