Ashton Needs Five Star Game to Get Fourth Star

Lisa Ashton admits she needs a five-star performance to get a fourth star on her shirt in the BDO World Championship final. Defending champion Ashton takes on Russian ace Anastasia Dobromyslova in a huge Women’s final clash at the Lakeside today. It’s the battle of the three-times world champs and Ashton has made it clear to wants to win to chase down Trina Gulliver’s record 10 wins. She admitted: “It’s massively important to me to get a fourth star on my shirt. Me and Ana have both got three. Trina Gulliver has got 10 so it will be one step closer to her of both of us to win. “For me to get four stars would be a dream. “I slowly started this year in each game. But I know I’ve got to bring my A game now because Ana is on form. As long as I can do that, I can do it.” It’s a deja vu of the 2013 final which sees Ashton bidding for a fourth title in five years to become the outright second most successful player in the history of the competition - but the Russian will be aiming to do the same. Dobromyslova won their only previous Lakeside final clash 2-1 and will be confident of securing her first world title since that day, having produced a trio of 82+ averages on the way to the decider. The Lancashire Rose inflicted more heartbreak on Deta Hedman in yesterday’s semi-final, grinding out a very gritty win over her rival. She added: “It was a tough game against Deta and obviously I’m very happy to get to another final. “I couldn’t let Deta get the first set so to take out the double to go 1-0 up was vital. Once I got that under my belt I thought I’ve just got to keep going.” By Phil Lanning (@lannomedia) Photography courtesy of BDO / DGmedia
