BDO Tackles a Burning Issue With Fire Kills Campaign
The ‘Fire Kills’ campaign and the British Darts Organisation (BDO) successfully joined forces for all five tournaments in the Setanta televised BDO International Grand Prix Series from May to September this year.
The unique liaison has helped raise awareness of the important issue of fire safety in the home environment, and those who attended the events were able to meet members of the fire and rescue service.
At each venue, local FRS personnel were on hand to offer fire safety advice and take requests for the free Home Fire Risk Check (for more information, and to request a Check, please visit
www.direct.gov.uk/firekills ).Over five hundred BDO darts fans signed up to improve fire safety in their homes, and were entered into a prize draw to win a V.I.P package for two at the BDO World Professional Darts Championships at the famous Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green, Surrey in January 2009.
The prize includes tickets to the Final of the 2009 Championship on January 11th, 2009 and V.I.P passes to the players lounge and Champions Dinner.
The lucky winner is Jason Knibbs from Wilmslow, Bucks, who will be taking his brother Chris to the BBC televised Lakeside Final.
He said: "I’ve been playing darts for 13 years and I’m really looking forward to going to Lakeside for the first time. I’m also getting my Home Fire Risk Check booked because I now know how important fire safety is." Runners up Alan Taylor (London), Brian Furse (Cornwall), Karen Bellenger (Cornwall) and Becki Emerson (Doncaster) will be honing their skills with a Winmau Dartboard Cabinet set.
Martin Adams, England’s longest serving England darts captain and Fire Kills ambassador added: "Working together with the Fire Kills campaign has allowed the BDO and its players to take the vital fire safety message across the UK. I’m a huge believer in the message that the campaign is getting across and look forward to meeting Jason and his brother Chris at Lakeside in January."
