Article: Beaton beats Taylor in tense semi-final

Beaton beats Taylor in tense semi-final

Steve Beaton defied a 111 - 3 dart average to beat The World Number one in a final-leg defeat to secure his place in Saturdays Players Championship final.

Taylor had led 4-2 thanks to 10, and 11-dart-finishes before Beaton fought back to win the next three legs to go one leg away from the match.

Taylor held throw to send the game to a deciding leg but missed two darts for the match in the deciding leg, which allowed Beaton to step in for a superb victory and a place in the final, which he narrowly lost to the in-form Simon Whitlock.

This was Simon’s fourth Pro Tour title of 2010 in the space of six weeks with this thrilling 6-4 victory over Steve Beaton on Saturday in Salzburg.
At the start of the final Beaton held throw to win the opening leg and then doubled his lead to 2-0 after Whitlock missed six opportunities at doubles to level.
Beaton won the third leg to move further clear of his opponent after Whitlock missed another dart at double.
