Birmingham Mail - A West Midland Round-up by Alan Towe - 20.07.23

Once again the Warwickshire County Darts Organisation headquarters Hen Lane Club, Beacon Road, Coventry, CV6 4DS was the setting for the latest in the annual Warwickshire Invitational Classic. The event invites forty-eight top players to participate in a Round Robin competition.

Winner of the event was Joe Croft with Mark Challenger runner-up. Losing semi-finalists were Colin Osbourne and James Richardson with Nick Fullwell, Steve Hine, Jamie Hughes and Dave Ladley all making their exits in the last eight.

A word from Warwickshire Chairman and event organiser Neil Pritchard “Got to say that yesterday's event was the absolute epic that was fully expected. It’s been an extremely stressful time leading up to the event with 43 players being invited but not able to make it so it meant a lot of new faces to the event but that certainly never diluted the standard. Right from the very start it was very intense and anybody’s guess as to who would lift the title. The knockout stages from last sixteen did not disappoint. In total there were 227 maximum scores which show’s exactly what we were being afforded on the day, an overall event average of 79 but a knockout stage average of 83plus, an unbelievable standard.

A huge thank you to all the players on the day, also to Martin Partridge for his technical advice and to Sarah West for running the show. Thank you to the board sponsors for the day and all the markers, Shane Hill, Charlie Moreton, Harry Earp, Steve Smelt, Rob Singleton, Ryan Saunders, Dan Gadsby and Trevor Ankers. You were all superb, starting to look now for a date for next year's eventâ€_x009d_.
