Can Yozza Get a Donkey to Blackpool
After reaching his maiden World Matchplay in Blackpool back in 2019, then backing it up with qualification a year later in Milton Keynes, Jamie Hughes is pushing hard to qualify for this year’s event & get himself Back-to-Blackpool.
Jamie has had a solid year on the Pro-Tour so far this year, reaching a Semi Final, a Quarter Final & several Last 32’s from the year’s floor events. If Yozza can have a good week in Milton Keynes at Super Series 5, he will be in a prime position to qualify for the Matchplay.
Speaking with Red Dragon, Jamie told us, “the World Matchplay is one of the biggest events in darts, with so much history. I loved my time in Blackpool two years ago and I’m desperate to qualify again. I will be giving it everything this week at the Super Series to give myself the best chance to qualify.
“Having only experienced the Blackpool crowds once, it’s something I’ll never forget and after more than a year without playing in front of any crowds I know everyone will want to grab one of the 32 places, so its up to me to work hard & get myself into the qualification places.”
Despite not winning either of his two First-Round games in the Matchplay, Yozza has been involved in two thrilling matches, that have left us wanting more this year. On his Matchplay debut, in Blackpool, in 2019 he met eventual Finalist Michael Smith, where he suffered a 10-7 defeat, where his finishing let him down towards the end.
The next year, he pushed newly crowned Premier League champion Glen Durrant all the way to 12-10, where Duzza was forced to win by 2-clear legs as is the traditional Matchplay rules.
Good luck to Jamie who is taking part in Super Series 5 this week – to keep up to date with Jamie’s progress make sure to check out DartConnect.tv or follow Red Dragon’s social media channels for updates!
