Clayton’s Red-Hot Form Continues with World Series of Darts Win

Jonny Clayton picked up his fourth TV title of 2021 last night, as he defeated Dimitri van den Bergh 11-6 to lift the World Series of Darts Finals trophy.

Dubbed by many as “The Year of the Ferret”, 2021 has been an amazing success for Jonny who now has four TV titles to his name, picking up his second of the month along with the World Grand Prix earlier in October.

Clayton posted back-to-back ton averages as he defeated Michael van Gerwen in his semi-final before facing van den Bergh.

Clayton also defeated World Cup team-mate and World Number 1 Gerwyn Price with a sensational comeback from 7-2 down to winning a last leg decider in quarters.

"I'm enjoying every second of what I'm doing right now," Clayton reflected. "I want to thank everyone who supports me and give me the chance to do this.

"I feel brilliant, my confidence is sky high at the moment. I'm one very happy man.

"There's no easy games, everyone in this competition is fantastic but it's my weekend so I'm going to smile tonight.

"It was a class game in the final, fair play to Dimitri. I could not get away from him until the last quarter of the game."

A captivating final saw Clayton go 2-0 up before the lead changed hands four times across the next nine legs as both players wrestled to take hold of the contest.

The 14th leg proved pivotal, as Clayton broke the Van den Bergh throw to go 8-6 in front before taking out 103 to give himself a three-leg buffer.

Clayton pressed home his advantage, winning the last two legs with finishes of 121 and 96 to lift his first World Series title and pocket the £70k top prize.

Elsewhere in the competition, PDC veteran Mervyn King posted a record average for the tournament of 115.62, where he whitewashed James Wade 6-0 in the opening round.

The PDC darting schedule remains in full flow as Super Series 8 takes place across 2nd – 4th November with the final three Players Championship events in Barnsley Metrodome.

The next PDC televised event is the Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts, which will take place in Wolverhampton from November 13-21 - click here for ticket information.
