Darlow & Meek Sweep Up Projectdarts Weekend

A tough weekend of darts with The Tiger on his way to Qschool and Steve Meek through to the Cosmo World Series finals. We start the round up with the Club Qschool qualifier and with Pete Jacques winning the final of this one last year and seeing what he has done, all eyes were on Rotherham at the players bar for this one. Group 1 Tony Darlow was inspired as he had a 5-1 win over Steve Rumble hitting 3 x 180s in the game and in game two Owen Cubitt had the same but went down 5-4 to the Manic Ryan Goffin. Tony Darlow then hit another 2 x 180s in a great win over Cubitt and Rumble just got the better of Ryan Goffin to go joint 2nd. The Tiger Tony Darlow hit Ryan's chance of getting through the group with a 5-0 win and Rumble followed him through doing the same to Cubitt. Group 2 Tony Molyneaux only dropped one leg en-route to the next round recording a 5-1 win over Greg Beard and ruthless shut outs of Sam Walker and Chris Keane. Greg would also qualify, despatching Chris and Sam. Group 3 Bob Pinder would take advantage of an error by Tom Gurran and win the opener 5-2 and with Carl Wilkinson not dropping a leg it came down to Carl and Bob to see who would win the group as both men had qualified. However, Bob was faultless and won the group with a 5-0 win over an out of sort Carl. Group 4 This one was a nail biter, with everyone beating each other and Mark Gurran needing to beat Kieran Evans to stand a chance of qualification. Which Mark did and then won a playoff to top the group and go through with Kieran Evans, an unlucky Pete Bramley just missing out by one leg. Last 8 Tony Darlow continued to be very impressive, winning 5-1 over Evans who started well. Carl Wilkinson beat fellow Barnsley star Tony Molyneaux and it was Carl back on form to go through 5-2. Match of the afternoon was Bob Pinder and Greg Beard with a 5-3 win for Bob but all legs under 20 darts. Mark Gurran had a chance to level at 3-3 but eventually went down 5-3 to Steve Rumble as the former Players bar man went into the last 4. The Tiger looking as keen as Steve would go through 5-3 against Carl but after being 4-0 up, was made to work hard for the line winning 5-3 and thwarting the comeback by Wilkinson. Tony hitting 14, 14, 19, 18 & 18 and Carl 21, 15 & 20 and them both sharing 4 maximums. Final Tony was at his best as he won the final 5-2 and all legs below 20 with Steve hitting a 14 and 18 and tony following his semi final exploits 14,18,20 to win the match and a place at qschool in January. Meek came through the group 2nd and it would not be the first time he met the Hellraiser on the day. Steve Thompson, Jack Kerr and Owen Cubitt along with Kieron Potts and Jake Rhodes had a brilliant group for the spectators with 3 men finishing on 6 points and with Owen shading it on leg difference it was left to Steve & Jack to play a one leg shootout, with Jack edging the win. The first semi final would go to Bob Pinder, with a decisive last leg to clinch victory over Jack Kerr. Steve Meek, clearly liking this competition now as he rattled off 9 legs without reply winning his semi final 4-0 and then totally reversing the earlier match with Bob Pinder by winning the final 5-0. This confirmed his place in December in the Cosmo World Series finals. Jack Kerr won the battle for 3rd and Kieron Potts won the plate final in a fine 2-1 win over Ryan Goffin.
