Darts News – A West Midlands Report By Alan Towe

With only one fixture remaining the Four Oaks and District League is all set for a dramatic finish, in division one second placed and reigning champions Sutton Sports won 6-3 away to current leaders The Beehive to move to within two points of the leaders which means The Beehive must win their final game away to Golden Hind Arrows to win the title, Sutton Sports will have a home tie against third in the table Red Lion.
In the second division Golden Hind lost their two points lead when they went down 5-4 at home to Old Oscott WMC and being as second in the table Boldmere Sports won 8-1 at Pint Pot Flights the two teams are now locked together on 22 points with just one leg of average separating them. The final fixtures will see Golden Hind play away to Plough and Arrows and Boldmere have a home tie with Erdington Stars.
Third division leaders Anvil Nomads had a bye this week and The Fox took full advantage drawing level on both points and average following their 8-1 home win over Erdington Arrows, again leaving the title to be decided on the final game in which the two teams will square up to each other, the winners will becoming the champions.

The Halesowen Monday Night Ladies League had the League Cup on their agenda and winning through to the next round were Spring Meadow, Park Lane Tavern and Black Horse, Hare and Hounds had a bye.

It was the finals of the Doubles Knockout in the Netherton Thursday Night League and taking the honours were the Springfield Social Club pairing of K.Chambers and N.Smith who beat the Bulls Head dup T.Nock and M.Stanton 2-0 in the final.
Chambers and Smith had been in top form throughout the evening wining their quarter final game against J.Batham and R.Powers (Rose and Crown) 2-0 and with the same scoreline defeated L.Banner and P.Wells (Netherton Sports and Social Club) in the semis.

Singles knockout finals were the order of the day for the Forest of Arden Winter League, in the men’s final Olton Crown’s John Sidwell beat Robbie Earl (Iron Horse) to take the title, while in the women’s final Debbie Flynn lifted the crown with a final success over Sue Kingdon. Winning the youth title was Alex Edwards with Tom Anderton runner up.

The South Birmingham League staged the semi finals of the divisional cups, in the division one play offs league leaders Crown-Forget-Me-Not had a convincing 8-1 win over Toby Jug and third placed Mackadown Social had a similar result against Punchbowl.
The division two games saw The Dog hand out a 9-0 whitewash to their opponents Smithswood Social while Banbury Flights had a much closer and surprising 5-4 win against divisional leaders Coleshill Social who are undefeated in the league having won all eleven games.

Abbey took their undefeated run in the Harborne League to four games with a 6-3 win at Hillyfields ‘B’ to remain the only team with a 100% record. Smethwick Labour Club and West Heath Snooker Club are both just two points behind the leaders and in their latest games Smethwick won 8-1 at Avenue Social and West Heath had a 5-4 success at home to Avenue Flights, not a good week for the Avenue teams.
At the other end of the table Weoley Castle WMC are the only team in the league without a win so far, their most recent fixture seeing them go down 9-0 at Court Oak.

Because of the Aston Villa versus West Bromwich Albion fixture only two games were played in the Hilltop Friendly League this week, the game between Jolly Collier and Merry-Go-Round saw the two teams swap places in the table as the former won 5-2 and take over third place.
The other game saw second in the table Dewdrop beat Tipton Sports 4-3 to make it six consecutive wins and move into pole position, former leaders Old Hop Pole now have a game in hand and trail by two points.

Rose and Crown (Brierley Hill) took their unbeaten run in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League to eight games with a 5-4 home win over Dudley Sports ‘B’. Dudley Sports ‘C’ kept within four points of the leaders with a similar 5-4 win against Bulls Head plus they have a game in hand. Also on 12 points are Roebuck, Dudley Sports ‘A’ and Bridge ‘B’ who in turn had 5-4 wins against Bridge ‘A’, High Acres and Liberal Club.
Blue Brick dropped three places in the table to eighth after losing somewhat surprisingly 5-4 at home to Black Horse who are fourteenth in the table.

The final of the Tamworth League’s Three Tuns Trophy was a close 4-3 win for league leaders Fox and Dogs over second in the league Dolphin ‘A’. In the last four playoff Fox and Dogs had a comfortable 4-1 win over Sports Bar, the Dolphin ‘A’ versus Longwood game went to the wire with the former getting the 4-3 result.

Despite winning their home fixture 5-4 against Netherton Cricket Club Pensnett Welfare Club have been ousted from pole position in the Brierley Hill Friday Night League as Brickmakers Arms, who were second won 8-1 against Bridge to take over the number one spot on average.
Miners (Wollescote) beat Dudley Sports ‘A’ 7-2 to give them the same 12 points as Brickmakers and the Welfare Club but again lag behind on average.

Just one game played in the Camp Hill League this week which saw Holy Gulp beat Horses 4-3 and take over the lead in the table but only on average from Scruffy Ringers and Cotterills Lane Club who both now have a game in hand on Gulp.

Ten Arches ‘A’ were the only winners in the top three teams in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night league, their win was a vital and impressive 6-1 win at Ashwood ‘A’ who are their nearest rivals and now trail by six points. Ashwood ‘B’ make up the top three and they, after losing 4-3 at Rose and Crown are four points adrift of their ‘A’ team.
Wombourne Cricket Club dropped one place in the league table following their 6-1 home defeat by The Bell who are seventh in the table.

The top two teams in the Cradley Tuesday Night League kept up their unbeaten runs, leaders The Gate made it seven wins with an emphatic 9-0 home win over Chop House, while second placed White Horse took their run to six games with a 6-3 success over Members Club ‘B’. Wheatsheaf won 5-4 at Members Club ‘A’ to put them on the same 12 points as White Horse but they have played one game more.

The top three teams in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League all won this week, leaders Ashwood making it a very impressive 23 straight wins with a 7-2 home victory over Corn Exchange to keep them six points ahead of second placed Ten Arches who beat Shrubbery Cottage 9-0.
Third in the table Britannia won an important game beating fifth placed Bird ‘A’ (Stourbridge) 7-2.

The latest fixtures in division one of the Pip Club League were something of a disaster for leaders Birchmoor Club as they lost 7-1 away to their nearest rivals Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) to put both teams level on 17 points and see Bulls Head heading the table on average.
No such problem for division two leaders J W Belgrave as they chalked up a massive 14-2 win away to Gate (Amington) to give them a total of 28 points and open up a six points lead on Sports Bar ‘180’ who lost their home tie with fourth in the table Old Liberal 12-4.

ECC kept their winning run going in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League albeit a close 4-3 win away to Victoria, nevertheless the victory keeps them just ahead of Otter and Vixen and Wednesfield Legion ‘A who also boast wins in the opening three fixtures, the former winning 4-3 against Railway and the latter having a 5-2 win over Merry Boys.
Dog and Partridge dropped down the table after suffering their first defeat of the campaign, a 6-1 reversal at Bradmore ‘B’ who are placed fourth.
In division two Bull and Riley’s ‘A’ lost for the first time this season, Bull going down 4-3 at Pheasant and Riley’s 5-2 at home to Roebuck.
Three teams are on six points at the top of the table Fordhouses CC, Whitmore Reans WMC and Pheasant.
