Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

The Warwickshire county squad will be travelling to the south west this coming weekend to take on Devon in what will be their final fixture of the season in the premier division of the BDO Inter County Championships and a win in this final game could well see them finish in fourth place in the table one place higher than what they finished last season.

In division two of the BDO Inter County Championships West Midlands are currently in second place with 183 points just four short of leaders London who they play hosts to in what will bring down the curtain on their season. The result will undoubtedly decide who will get promotion to division one as champions and could also see the losing team get promotion as runners up as West Midlands have a lead of eleven points over third placed Berkshire.

With only three game to play only four points of average separate the top two teams Crown at Olton and Crown at Shard End in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League the former taking over in pole position after winning their latest fixture against The Pavillions 6-3 and a rearranged game against Langley Hall Sports and Social Arrows 7-2. Crown at Shard End also played a rearranged fixture against The Pirates and won 6-3.
Solihull Moors with 30 points from 17 games have one hand on the division one title Highwood KB’s and Iron Horse in second and third places are both on 24 points from 16 games.
Crown Arrows lead the way in division two with 28 points second placed Highwood Arrows are four points adrift but have a game in hand.

The Four Oaks and District League played off their Central Container Services sponsored Derek Masters Singles Trophy. In the quarter finals the top two first division teams Beehive and Boldmere St Mikes dominated the competition providing five of the eight finalists yet the only two second division players R.Bazeley (Erdington Arrows) and M.Archer (Bishop Vesey) made it to the semi-finals and actually played each other in the semi’s Archer having a narrow 2-1 win over Bazeley. In the other semi final previous winner R.Hawker (Boldmere St Mikes) won 2-1 against K.Reynolds (The Beehive).
The final was a triumph for the second division player Archer who beat his division one opponent R.Hawker (Boldmere St Mikes) 3-0.

The top two teams in the Shirley and District Monday Night League Highwood and Shirley Red Lion consolidated their positions with 9-0 wins over respective opponents Shirley Legionnaires and Sharmans Cross, Highwood holding on to pole position with a two points lead and taking their unbeaten run to twelve games.
Third placed and reigning champions Crown Jewels were not far behind with their 8-1 win over Shirley Spartac but they trail the leaders by four points.

It was the final week of the Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League’s season that decided the winner of the title as the top two players Mick Baker and Kevin Harris played each other. Harris after beating Simon Meredith 5-2 lost by the same margin to Baker and with a final 7-0 win for Baker against Rob Harris he took the title with 136 points ten more than Harris.
As champion Mick Baker not only collects a lucrative cash prize but also a twelve months sponsorship deal from Winmau.

It was cup finals week in the South Birmingham League and winning the divisional cup in division one were Erdington Members Club with a 6-3 win over Coleshill Social, The Dog won the division two title with a final 5-3 win against The Gate.
The final of the Captains Cup was contested between Nigel Groves (The Gate) and Paul Moran (Banbury Flights) which saw the latter take the title.

J.Gale, second in group ‘A’ of the Halesowen Friday Night Singles League suffered a setback this week when he lost 6-1 to ninth placed L.Law. Leader R.Hill with 2x180 had a 7-0 win over D.Dakin followed by a 5-2 success against R.Lenton to put him on 59 points ten more than Gale and with a game in hand.
D.McConomy leads group ‘B’ a maximum and a 7-0 win over J.Habernathy giving him a total of 52 points plua an eleven points lead over second placed T.Johnson although he has played one game more than Johnson.
