Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

The South Birmingham League were engaged in cup semi finals this week, first the Knockout Cup in which group one champions Mackadown Social won 6-3 against The Raven who are next to bottom of group one. The second semi final saw Erdington Members Club who are second in group one hand out a 9-0 whitewash to their group two opponents The Gate.
The last four play off for the Jimmy Walker Cup brought together the bottom team from each group, group one side Coleshill Social winning 5-4 against The Bell, the other game was an all group two affair in which The C’s beat Toby Jug 5-4.
The league will be getting their new season started on the 20th June and still have one vacancy available, all interested parties should contact Sue Kingdon on 07703-812332.

With all the domestic issues sorted in the Four Oaks and District League it’s been a week of cup fixtures and in the semi finals of the Challenge Cup The Lions made short work of their opponents The Fox with a 5-0 win. Erdington Arrows put up a little more resistance against Bishop Vesey the game going to three each before Bishop Vesey took the game with a 5-3 result, M.Kenny recording his second 180 of the season for Erdington Arrows.
Beaten by The Beehive in the first division title race Boldmere St Mikes found some consolation in a resounding 10-5 win against them in the final of the Coronation Shield. There were plenty of fireworks in the game with no fewer than 47 tons including a maximum from W.Mynard (The Beehive) his third of the season.
Second division runners up Bishop Vesey had a much harder fight in the Norman Day Cup final against The Lions, with the score at six each the match was decided in the final leg of the last game, Bishop Vesey the 8-7 winners.

In the Small Heath League East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association added an emphatic 8-1 win over their hosts The Mitre to their tally and consolidate their four points lead at the top and take their unbeaten run to six games, Mitre meanwhile lost their second place and dropped to third with Gulp Tribe replacing them in second place with a superior average as they are both on eight points as are Wagon and Horses who were also 8-1 winners away to bottom of the table Emerald Flights.

The play off will be held on Saturday 7th May 2016 at the Winmau Centre in the Wolverhampton Indoor Community Sports Stadium, Racecourse Road, Wolverhampton, WV6 0QU, tel:- 01902-420827.
The play-off’s will generate four men and two lady qualifiers that will go forward to the Finals in Manchester over the three days on 28th, 29th and 30th May at Manchester’s cutting edge Victoria Warehouse.

Doors will open at the Winmau Centre at 10.00am, registration is at 10.30am and players will toe the oche at 12.00 noon.

Hay Mills Lions have dropped from second to third in the Camp Hill League after going down 4-3 away to the currently unbeaten leaders Cotterills Lane Club whose perfect total of 18 points gives them a four point’s lead over Holy Souls who have moved up into second place following their 4-3 with at the Grange Social Club.

A 6-3 win at Weoley Castle WMC took Court Oak another step nearer the title in the Harborne and District League. Undefeated in fourteen games and with just two to play Court Oak have a slender two point’s advantage over Hillyfields ‘A’ who had a bye this week and have just one remaining fixture. For Court Oak to lose the title they would have to lose both of their remaining fixtures and Hillyfields ‘A’ win their final game.

The Outcasts reign at the top of the Winmau Centre Monday Night League was short as a 25-23 defeat by What’s The Points has seen them drop three places to fourth. Returning to the number one spot is The Untouchables whose huge 46-2 win against Where’s My Team has given them a total of 193 points six more than their nearest rivals 3 Yam Yams and A.Stokie who handed out a gigantic 48-0 whitewash to bottom of the table Double Trouble.

The Langley Darts open 2016 sponsored by Jays Vapour Trail will be staged at Langley Hall Social Club, Langley Hall Road, (entrance between Houses 40/42), Olton, Solihull, B92 7HE on Saturday 4th June.
Registration opens at 4.30pm with a 6.00pm start the entry fee is £7 per player only open to the first 64 players. All entry fees are to be paid in full before the day. The event carries a guaranteed £400 for the eventual winner, £150 for the runner up and £50 for the losing semi finalists.
There will also be a consolation competition for the first round losers with prize money to be announced on the day.

Fourth placed Pensnett Liberal Club are on the same 18 points as Bulls Head they suffered a shock 7-2 home defeat at the hands of the Dudley Sports ‘B’ team who are in a mid table position.

In the Rowley Monday Night League undefeated leaders Springfield Social Club had a bye this week and second in the table Ex Serviceman’s ‘A’ joined them on 24 points with a 5-4 win away to Roost, the win however was not enough for them to remain in an outright second place as a 7-2 win against Bacaba has seen The Bell join them as joint second level on both points and average. The two second placed teams have played thirteen games whereas Springfield have played one less, the three teams have now opened up a gap of eight points between them and fourth placed Ivy Bush ‘Z’, Haden Cross ‘Z’ and Ivy Bush ‘A’ are also on the same 16 points as Ivy Bush ‘Z’.

Ten Arches ‘B’ were the only losers in the top six teams in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League they lost their home tie against Brickmakers Arms 5-4 and despite winning Brickmakers dropped one place to fourth as Bird ‘A’ (Stourbridge) had a 7-2 home win over The Fox (Lye) to give them the same 40 points as Brickmakers but with a better average. R.Hill opened up a 14 points lead at the top of Group ‘A’ in the Halesowen Friday Night Singles League when he won 5-2 against A.Smith. Hill’s nearest rival A.Cowley also won his game against M.Baylis by the same 5-2 margin and has two games in hand on Hill
D.Dakin moved a little further away from the foot of the table after registering his first win in nine, a 6-1 success over R.Langford. J.Smith was another player to chalk up a first win when he beat V.Bayliss 4-3.

Big wins for the top two teams in division one of the Pip Club League leaders Prince of Wales beating Wigginton Arms 9-0 and second placed Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) wining 8-1 against Sports Bar ‘180’ to leave them two points behind Prince of Wales with a game in hand.

Week five in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League and division one leaders Riley’s ‘C’ took their winning run to five games with a 4-3 home win over Wednesfield Conservative Club. Two more teams have a 100% win record Gilberts Bar and Roebuck, both of them having played just three games, Gilberts latest win being 5-2 against Riley’s ‘D’ and Roebuck winning 4-3 at Bradmore ‘A’.
Dog and Partridge suffered their first defeat in five games in division two when they went down 4-3 at home to Wednesfield Legion ‘B’ who are in a mid table position. Taking over as leaders of the division are Riley’s ‘A’ their 6-1 win at Ukrainian Club maintaining the winning run and opening up a two points advantage over Dog and Partridge, Pavilion and Sunbeam.
