Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

The Sheldon and District Summer League are up to week four of their season and the top two teams in division one Castle Vale Residents and Langley Hall Sports and Social Arrows stay locked together on the same six points after the former beat Marston Green Tavern 5-3 and the latter won 6-2 at Mackadown Social, Castle Vale are now top but only by one leg of average.
Division two leaders The Harvester were held to a 4-4 draw away to Sheldon Marlborough Arrows who are fourth in the table with three points from three games. Harvester with seven points from four games remain in pole position despite their nearest rivals The Pirates winning 5-3 against Iron Horse Flights to leave them two points short of the leaders but with a game in hand.
Although Highwood KB had a bye this week in division three they still have a one point lead over second placed Yardley Ex Colts who finished all square at four each in their home tie with Maggies.
Division four top side Highwood Exiles suffered not only their first defeat in four games but a massive 7-1 reversal away to Small Heath Amateur Gardeners who are currently fourth in the table. Exiles stay in the number one spot but are now only one point ahead of Ridgemere Flights who have played one game fewer than Exiles.

After two consecutive league defeats West Heath returned to winning ways in division one of the Kings Norton League when they won 4-3 away to Toby Jug ‘A’ but they are still four points behind leaders Court Oak and have played one game more than their rivals. Third placed Hillyfields fell six points behind Court Oak after losing their home game with The Coppice 4-3.
In division two Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club have moved up one place into pole position after a 5-2 win at Rubery RBL who formerly lead the division. Kevin Harris has had his lead at the top of the Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League cut by three points and is now only six ahead of Louis Burley whose 5-2 win against Chris Fox and 4-3 triumph over Devinder Singh has taken his points tally to 101, and he still has two games in hand on Harris.

The local derby between the two Ten Arches teams in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League produced a somewhat surprising result as the ‘B’ team beat the ‘A’ team 5-4 to see the ‘A’ drop one place to fourth and the ‘B’ move up one place to fifth leaving just a two point’s gap between the two teams.
The top two teams leaders Ashwood and second placed Britannia both won 6-3 in turn against Quarry Bank Conservative Club and High Acres to leave the position exactly the same as before both teams level on points with Ashwood having a slightly better average. R.Colley and K.Bennett both recorded a 160break for Britannia.

Dudley Sports ‘C’ and The Bridge are the top two teams in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League and in week 23 both of them chalked up 6-3 wins, Dudley Sports ‘C’ beating Queens Head (Wordsley) to stay eight points ahead of The Bridge who won their home game against third placed Bulls Head (Netherton) giving them a.six points buffer over both their opponents and High Acres who won 7-2 against Roebuck. Blue Brick were also 7-2 winners in their home tie with Old Star and move up into fifth place taking over from The Bell who surprisingly lost 6-3 at home to Dudley Sports ‘B’ who are placed ninth in the table.

A reminder that over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th July the Winmau Darts Centre in the Wolverhampton Indoor Community Sports Stadium will be hosting the Festival of Youth Darts in which there will be an Under 18 Challenge Tour 1 & 2 (Mixed), 18-25 Men Young Players Challenge, 18-25 Ladies Young Players Challenge and a British Teenage Mixed Singles event. The events are open to all players as long as they’re not Tour Card Holders or played in the 128 Professional Tour. A couple of vital games played in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League this week as second in the table Island Inn played away to third placed Old Hop Pole, the result was a 5-2 win for Island Inn to put them two points ahead of their opponents.
Fourth and fifth placed The Vine and New Talbot did battle and the outcome of that was again a win for the away side as New Talbot got the 4-3 result to reduce the arrears on their hosts to just two points.

Riley’s, Coventry staged the first of their qualifiers for the Red Dragon Champion of Champions Competition and the man in form throughout the event was Craig Allen who despite being taken to a deciding leg in the final by Josh Richardson hit top scores of 100,180 and 140 to storm to a finish and clinch a 2-1 victory plus a place in the grand final at Cardiff on the 28th August.

Five of the top six teams in the Rowley Monday Night League won 6-3 in week 20, leaders Ex Serviceman’s ‘A’ beating Whiteheath Tavern while second placed Springfield Social Club accounted for Britannia to keep within two points of the leaders. The Bell are on the same 30 points as Springfield and they were another team to win 6-3 in their game at Haden Cross ‘Z’ who were the only losers in the top six. The other two teams to win 6-3 were Fairfield against Yeltz Bar and Ivy Bush ‘Z’ who won away to Roost.

T and R Bar lost their second place in the Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League after suffering a 5-2 home defeat at the hands of the St Mary’s ‘A’ team, taking over in the number two position is Horse and Jockey who won 9-1 away to Civil Defence but they still remain ten points adrift of leaders Staffordshire Knot who won their fixture against Cottage Spring 5-4.
