The South Birmingham League had semi finals on their fixture card and in the Rose Bowl group one champions Raven had a close 5-4 win over The Pavillions who are from group two. The other last four game saw group three winners Erdington Members Club beat Mackadown Social who finished as runners up in the same group. In the semi finals of the Edna Meek Cup group one side The Bell won 7-2 against C’s Arrows who are in group three and bottom of group one C’s Flights accounted for The Kingfisher who are bottom of group two with a 5-4 scoreline. With just one week’s fixtures remaining in the Sheldon Heath Social Dukes In House League Sean O’Donnell with a 3-0 win over Mark O’Donnell has moved up one place into the top spot with 30 points. Former leader Lee Molyneux didn’t play in the penultimate week and drops down to fifth place on 29 points. Phil Ashford moves up one place to second following his 3-0 success against Simon Banks to put him on the same 30 points as leader O’Donnell and also on 30 points is third in the table Paul Sunner whose 3-0 win over Tony Hicks took him from his previous fourth position. Although Ashford and Sunner are on 30 points with Sean O’Donnell they have both played one game more than him and the odds must now surely be in favour of O’Donnell taking the title. The Forest of Arden Summer League have been engaged in the quarter finals of their Pairs Knockout and the biggest winners of the round were current league leaders Journeys End who beat Highwood Arms 11-4. Journeys End local rivals Journeys End Flights were not so fortunate as they finished on the wrong side of a close 8-7 result against middle of the table Greville Arrows. There were 10-5 wins for both Kinghurst Knights and Highwood KB as Kinghurst beat Crown Arrows and Highwood in a local derby took out Highwood Exiles. Steve Sidwell has taken over pole position from Paul Higgins in the Shirley Red Lion Premier League. Higgins began night in style with a 4-0 win over Mick Bown but then lost by the same scoreline to his nearest rival Sidwell before finishing the night as he began with another 4-0 result, this time against Karl Wilson. Sidwell played three games and won all three 4-0, in addition to his win over Higgins he also beat Chris Thomas and Tony Daly to give him a total of 62 points from 20 games two more than Higgins in second place who has played 19. Tom Bent with a 4-0 win over Tim Lowe and a 3-1 success against Nick Walker holds on to third place with 56 points three more than Dave Heighway who is fourth. Mark Gwalchmai moved up two places to fifth in what was a somewhat indifferent night as he was held to 2-2 draws by Luke Coles and Andy Thomas before winning his third game against Antony Daly 3-1. He then rounded off the night finishing all square at 2-2 with Tony Daly to put him on 52 points but he has three games in hand on leader Sidwell. There were a few high finishes in week nine, Mark Gwalchmai clocked out on 112 and a 116, Tom Bent took out a 120 finish, Paul Higgins recorded a 101 game shot and Chris Thomas took out 100, but the weekly £5 prize went by Dave Heighway with a top quality 141 check out in his 4-0 win over Nick Walker. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club consolidated their top position in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League with a 7-2 win at Roebuck to keep them two points to the good on second in the table Delph Bell who move up from third after their 6-3 win away to Blue Brick and the defeat of Bulls Head (Netherton) who lost their second place after going down 7-2 away to fourth placed Mount Pleasant who now join Bulls Head on 38 points. At the other end of the table both of the bottom two teams lost 8-1, next to bottom King William losing to Pensnett Liberal Club and bottom team Limes Club losing out to The Swan. Week number eight was a good week for the Fox Inn (Lye) in the Brierley Hill Friday Night League as the ‘B’ team won 4-3 away to the Britannia and the ‘A’ side produced the shock of the week as the won 5-2 against Pensnett Welfare Club ‘B’. Woodside Poachers didn’t play in week six of the Black Country Premier League and as a result lose pole position and drop to third on 9 points. Taking over at the top of the table are Blackheath Beechers who beat OQH Hunters 12-1 to put them on 11 points. For the second successive week results in the two singles divisions in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League had no affect whatsoever on the league positions. In division one of the doubles Wednesfield Conservative Club after a 2-1 defeat by Sunbeam have lost the number one spot to Riley’s ‘B’ who beat their ‘A’ team 3-0 to give them 32 points two more than Wednesfield. Jack’s Bar moved off the foot of the division with a 2-1 win over Pavilion and replacing them at the bottom of the table is Penn Bowling who lost 2-1 against Riley’s ‘C’. In division two Wednesfield Legion with a 2-1 win over Woodfield Social took their lead at the top of the table to six points, their nearest rivals Roebuck remain on 34 points after losing 3-0 to Pendulum.
