In the Kings Norton League Avenue C.Fox made it fifteen wins in as many games when they recorded an important 5-2 home win over Rubery RBL who drop from third to fifth in the table. Second placed E57 lost ground and fell six points behind the leaders when they went down 4-3 at home to Bournbrook who move up one place to third now on the same 24 points as their opponents, E57 and Bournbrook have played one game more than Avenue C.Fox. Cock Inn’s 6- win at Coppice takes them up into fourth place on 22 points, two short of the two teams just above them but with a game in hand a win would see them take over the number two spot. There was a first win in sixteen games for bottom of the league Kings Heath when they won 4-3 at home against Grant Arms who are five places above them and some twelve points better off. Emerald Club kept their title hopes on track in the Camp Hill Marston’s League when they beat Roost Rebels 6-1 to keep them two points ahead of second in the table White Swan Nomads who won 5-2 against bottom team Peaky Blinder. Although the Nomads are two points off the top they do have a game in hand in which a big win would see them move up into pole position. There were 4-3 wins for third and fourth placed Tyseley WMC and New Inn who in turn accounted for Wagon and Horses and Sedgemere Devil’s Club. The South Birmingham League have got their new season underway and the early pacesetters are Centurion who won 8-1 at C’s Bullets. Second in the table Banbury Arrows had a 6-3 home win over Smithswood while third placed C’s Top Guns got the better of C’s Hot Shots with a close 5-4 result. In the Mini League Coleshill Social won 18-9 at C’s Flights. The Small Heath League had the semi-finals of their League Cup on the fixture card which produced big wins for the league’s top two teams as current league leaders Heartlands Club handed their hosts Sheldon Marlborough Flights a 9-0 whitewash and second in the league table East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association won 7-2 at Cob’s Bar to set up what should be a mouth-watering final between the league’s top two sides. There were impressive wins for the top two teams in the Shirley and District Monday Night League as leaders Highwood, with a 180 from D.Rycroft won 8-1 against fourth in the table Lodge and second placed Dunky’s Boys went one better with a 9-0 success over The Short Shafts to keep them within four points of Highwood with two games in hand. Third placed Lion, also have two games in hand on Highwood but fell eight points off the top as they lost their home tie with fifth in the league Wharf 5-4. There were five 8-1 wins in the top nine teams and five 8-1 defeats in the bottom seven of the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League in game eighteen. The winners were leaders Brickmakers Arms, Ten Arches (third), Bird (Wordsley, fourth), Stourbridge RBL (fifth) and British Oak (ninth) who in turn defeated Rose and Crown, Bird (Stourbridge), Church Tavern, Kingswinford Conservative Club and Gigmill, Church Tavern being the only losing team not in the bottom half of the table. The other 8-1 losers in the bottom places were Hare and Hounds who lost at home against Lion (Stourbridge). Bulls Head are runners-up in the Netherton Thursday Night League and were favourites to win the League Cup final in which they squared up to Townsend Social Club who finished the season in fourth place a huge 21 points short of their opponents who still have one outstanding league fixture to play. The Rowley Monday Night League staged the finals of their Bill Bishop and Challenge Cups. The Bill Bishop Cup final brought together the league’s top two teams, champions The Bell and runners-up The George and that’s how the final finished with Bell the winners and George once again the bridesmaids. The Challenge Cup title went to Three Diamonds who had a final win over Spring Meadow Club. With just one fixture remaining in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ confirmed themselves as champions in style by winning 9-0. Playing at home against Portway the Ex Serviceman’s Club handed out the whitewash to maintain their two points and twenty-one legs of average lead over second placed Roebuck who are now unable catch them despite an invaluable 6-3 win against third in the table High Oak which guaranteed them the runners-up spot. There was a rare win for next to bottom of the table Limes Club, their 7-2 success against the team just above them Wombourne Pool Bar only their fourth win in 33 games. The Silver End Sunday Morning League fixtures produced a top of the table clash between leaders Woodside ‘A’ and second placed Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club. The outcome of the game was a huge 6-2 win for Woodside to give them a total of 61 points from 25 games, the Ex Serviceman’s Club dropping to third place behind Glasscutters ‘B’ with 53 points from 24 games. Glasscutters ‘B’ had a 5-3 home win over next to bottom of the table Woodside ‘B’ leaving them just five points off the top with two games in hand, two games that carry a total of six points. Lamp Tavern continue to remain undefeated in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League their latest fixture away to third in the table Netherton Cricket Club seeing them win 5-4 to make it eleven straight wins giving them a total of 22 points, two more than their nearest rivals and reigning champions Old Bulls Head who kept their top average going plus their two points advantage over Netherton Cricket Club with a 9-0 win at Jolly Crispin. Week four of the Brierley Hill Friday Night League saw both Brickmakers Arms teams win 6-1. Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ are second in the table and won away against bottom of the league Delph Bell ‘A’ to keep within two points of the undefeated leaders British Oak who were 5-2 winners at Dudley Sports. Brickmakers Arms ‘B’ who are on the same six points as their ‘A’ side are placed fourth and playing at home beat Miners (Wollescote). Netherton Cricket Club dropped one place in the table to third after losing 4-3 at home to Delph Bell ‘B’. Long time leaders of the West Midlands Men’s Super League Woodside ‘A’ have lost their pole position after suffering their first defeat in fourteen games, a 4-1 reversal away to reigning champions Allen’s Sports Bar ‘A’, who have now replaced their opponents in the number on spot with 85 points, Woodside ‘A’ dropping down two places to third on 82 points. Yeltz Bar ‘A’ who finished as runners-up last season take over in the number two position, their 5-0 win over Gilberts Bar leaving them just one point short of the leaders. There was a welcome return to winning ways for the ECC Sports and Social Club as they won 3-2 at home against Allen’s Sports Bar ‘B’. It was a somewhat tension filled fixture with Allen’s going 1-0 up through P.Harrison then trailing 2-1 after wins for the home team from M.Hampson and T.Baker. The game was levelled in the fourth with a win from L.Shaw but a final win for M.Baker in the last and deciding encounter gave ECC Club the points. Martin Edwards chalked up not one but two maximums for his team Belgrave Sports and Social Club in the Pip Club League and there was one each for Gaz Preece and Ian Turner helping them to a 6-3 win over Pip Club to keep them to of the Combined Division with 14 points, two more than both second and third placed Birchmoor Club and Dolphin Wanderers who in turn both won 7-2 against Globe (Wilnecote) and Progressive Club. The game between Birchmoor and Globe produced a maximum for both teams as Phil Jones hit the three treble twenties for the former and Mark Faulkner replied for the latter. Emily Jones was in top form for Sports Bar ‘180’ as she not only chalked up scores of 2x140 and 2x100 but she also hit a 180 as her team won 7-2 against Aldergate Club. This coming Saturday and Sunday the Weoley Castle Working Men’s Club, 158 Barnes Hill, Birmingham, B29 5TY will be hosting in turn the Birmingham Darts Classic and Birmingham Darts Open sponsored by Heineken. The Classic carries prize money of £2,000 with the eventual winner picking up £1,000 with prize money paid out to the last eight. Entry to this event is £12 for pre-registering and £15 on the day. Registration is up to 11.30am with a 12.00noon start. Entry to the open is £16 and £20 on the day for a total prize pot of £2,500 with a top prize of £1,200 and once again prize money down to the last eight. Registration for the Open is up to 1.00am with an 11.30am start. All prize money for both competitions is subject to receiving a minimum of 128 entries.
