Peter Wright continued his strong start to 2017 by powering through James Wade 6-3 in the Final at Robin Park Tennis Centre. This result confirmed that Snakebite topped the Coral UK Open Order of Merit with Prize money of £35,000 over the Qualifiers, adding to his 2 triumphs in Qualifiers 1 & 3. In what was an action packed weekend of darts, Michael Van Gerwen became only the 2nd man ever to achieve two 9-dart finishes in the same game, alongside Phil Taylor. MvG completed this feat as part of his run to winning Qualifier 4 on Friday. Ted Evetts, Darren Webster, Ronny Huybrechts and Christian Kist also achieved perfect 9 dart legs over the 3 days.
Australian Simon Whitlock claimed his 2nd victory in the Qualifiers by overcoming Ronny Huybrechts 6-3 in the Final in Q5. The Wizard of Oz has been in a purple patch of form as of late and will no doubt be pleased with his performance against a tough field of players in Wigan.
The second half of the Coral UK Open Qualifiers took place in Wigan over 3 days starting 10th Feb. This rounded off the qualifying stages and confirmed the 96 PDC players that have made it to the TV Finals. They will be joined by the 32 Riley’s Amateur Qualifiers on 4th March at the TV Finals in Minehead.
The Finals will be broadcast Live on ITV4 in the UK and worldwide through the PDC’s broadcasting partners from 4th-6th March. The tournament is an open draw with no seedings, the top 32 players will enter at the 3rd round and players 33-64 entering at the 2nd round.
