Cubitt and Bramley in Quality Pikado Contest
Pikado Liga at Players Bar Owen Cubitt and Pete Bramley played out a terrific match as both men hit maximums and recorded legs of 18, 20, 17, 18, 19, 20, 19 and also a 145 checkout for Owen in a 5-2 win to the Ice man. Both men continued in fine form for the rest of the evening as they both recorded a victory later that night with Pete winning 7-0 and Owen 4-3 in another great game over Tom Briggs. Shaun Greenfield and Paul Brittle had a similar game that went to 5-2 in a very good contest as did Lee Slack and John Lieber. Tony Hirst and Sie Simons had a close battle of 5-2 like Shooter Tom Sawford and Martin Pell. Brian Lewis was also involved in two belting games going down 4-3 to Steve Hattersley and a 5-2 win over Bob Lamb. Mystery Mandy Slack won a titanic tussle with Nikki Orman on board one with the Mystery lady taking the spoils 6-1. Ben Beardmore was brutal this week not dropping a leg to move him into contention but player of the week has to be Ben Chivers only dropping one leg in two games. [caption id="attachment_22734" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Trevor Burkhill,Micky Stocks & Tom Gurran[/caption] Turbo Trevor Burkhill became the 1st player in the 2017 season of the Red Dragon Sheffield Darts Masters at Rileys to win two events following the other nine so far all going to different winners and did it the hard way having to come from 2-1 and 3-1 down in two of his games. Trevor was victorious over Tom Gurran in the final, the youth player from Rotherham who had performed brilliant all day, and a deserved final for the young man. Turbo's path to the final was forged with an opening win over the very hot prospect Evan Hendry 4-0. Now remember Evan is only 7 yo and firmly sits in the top 20 ranking and although it was 4-0 he pushed Trevor in several of the legs and clearly has a huge future in the world of darts. He then beat another player who is fast making a name for himself in Adam Warner, this young man clearly going the right way and will certainly have many chances in the near future. It was old nemesis Bob Pinder for Trev next and the pair did not disappoint with 180s, high finishes too, with Bob leading 2-1 Trev pulled it back. He then survived his biggest scare of the afternoon when he found himself 3-1 down to the very good and popular Micky Stocks, this time sporting a very cool shirt, but managed to peck it back in a very nervy game to make the final. Young Tom Gurran played amazing all day and fully deserved his place in the final. Tom 'the Inferno' Gurran beat Jake Rhodes 4-0 in the opener with Jake, another young man, getting better all the time but met an on-fire Tom Gurran. Tom then went through Tom Blagg another young talented player with the same scoreline with Gurran hitting legs of 17, 19, 21 and a maximum also. Tom's semi final with Lester Big Red Bowers was a classic game, Tom would lead 3-1 with legs of 17, 19 and a maximum with a 108 outshot. Lester would fire back to draw level 3-3 with a 126 out and legs of 15 & 17 but in the last leg Tom hit an 18 dart leg to see of the comeback from Big Red and make his first senior final on the PDP circuit after many youth finals. Semi finalist Lester Bowers and Micky stocks made there play for the SDM title with good runs with Lester seeing off up and coming lady supremo Anne 'The Hustler' Lofthouse 4-1 with legs of 17/19 and a 180, before a tough 4-3 win over Sie Simons, another very good player. Ben Dulley played well all day beating Ben Chivers and Mark Gurran before his match with Lester, hitting a 15 dart leg and a 101 checkout but Big Red with legs of 21, 21, & 18 saw the Sheffield man into the semis. Micky Stocks was a man playing well all day, in his opener he hit 21, 13, 15, 16 and a maximum to beat young Matt Royle. He kept that form going when he had 2 x 180s and legs of 13, 15 & 16 to beat Steve Marfleet before a win over Danny Hall to make the semi final. Micky picked up the least darts bonus also with a 13 dart leg and was joint 180 winner with Bob Pinder also. Trevor who hit a 167 in the final was highest finish. Brian 'Doggy' Dawson won his place in the Cosmo Finals with a smooth display that put him straight into the mix to win the whole thing. Brian had some tough games as qualifying from a group that included two former PDC players in Sheffield darts stalwart Bob Pinder and Rotherham Man Brian Lewis of which he was to prevail unbeaten in the group. He then came up against Notts young county star Jack Kerr and Sheffield superleague player Ben Dulley. Rotherham's living legend Sie Simons was next in the semi finals before Brian went through. Finalist Micky Stocks had a tough draw also with having to see off county stars in his group and then Bob Pinder, Mark Gurran and Steve Marfleet in the semi-finals before going down 5-1 to Brian Dawson. Brian Lewis picked up the plate with a final victory over Ben Chivers.
