Rich Pickings Stuns Hitman

Three times Order of Merit Winner Richie Corner finally got his just desserts as he claimed his first York Open Darts Championship Grand Final victory defeating last years runner-up Chris Thompson 7-5 in the finals held at Huntington WMC in York. The event sponsored by Streamline Taxis and organised in Association with Red Dragon Darts brought together the Top 48 Ranked players who had played over eight qualifying stages to battle it out for the £501 winners prize.

This is York Darts Promotions version of the FA Cup where each round in drawn out in comparison to other events which are held on a block draw.

Thompson returned with a 180 for 20 darts and 19-18 to follow to rally back to within a leg at 5-4. A 117 finish for 15 gave Corner a two leg cushion which was deflated back to one as Thompson hit back with 16 darts. Another 15 darter from Corner showed his determination and gave him the 2013 tittle with an 81.66 average.  Thompson 81.75 average showed just how close the match was between these two York rivals.
