Darts star Dave Prins wins Hungarian Open
Darts star Dave Prins is celebrating after a triumphant win in the prestigious Hungarian Open tournament.
The darts ace travelled to Central Europe last week looking for a BDO Championship win to put under his belt.
Prins participated in the event at Budapest’s Budai Sports Hotel and returned victorious to his home town of Peterlee.
Not only did the 43-year-old win this year’s title but he made it two in as many years after retaining his crown.
He told StarSport: “I am really pleased to get this win.
“It meant a lot to me to win this tournament again as it is great to have titles to your name when going into bigger competitions.
“The opposition were very good. It was a test for me but I thought I played very well and my average of 95 shows that.
“Hopefully I can build a run of form that can continue into the bigger competitions.”
In the semi-final, Prins took a 5-2 win and then trumped that in the final against a Serbian opponent, winning 6-2.
Next up, Prins will visit Switzerland this weekend and hopes to better last year’s efforts when he reached the quarter finals.
“I am looking forward to the event which should be a fantastic opportunity for me,“ added Prins.
“I want to be playing the best darts I possibly can and make sure that I am in form when the World Championships come around.
“I have been at the Lakeside three out of four years and I wouldn’t mind another visit.”
