Article: Fitton eyeing another final

Fitton eyeing another final

STOCKPORT’S Darryl Fitton will head for the British Darts Organisation’s Winmau World Masters tournament this weekend aiming to go one better than last year.
In 2007 Fitton went all the way to the final of the prestigious BBC-televised tournament at the The Spa in Bridlington, only to lose out 7-5 to Scot Robert Thornton.
This year Fitton is seeded number five for the tournament, meaning he enters proceedings at the last 16 stage on Saturday.
He will meet a group stage qualifier in the last 16, while ominously Fitton is in the same half of the draw as the BDO’s in-form player Gary Anderson.
Anderson beat Fitton just a fortnight ago in the quarter-finals of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts tournament.
Meanwhile, having been controversially pipped to the eighth seeded place, Fitton’s fellow Stockport favourite Tony O’Shea must begin his Winmau World Masters bid on Friday lunchtime in the earlier qualifying stages.
O’Shea will play on board three on the main floor of the venue on Friday, when he must negotiate his way past Swiss player Klaus Demsar first.
THE draw will be made at Bridlington this weekend for the first round games at the forthcoming 2009 BDO World Championships. The Lakeside event at Frimley Green in Surrey takes place between January 3 and January 11.
