Peter Wright grabbed a priceless Unibet Premier League point thanks to his lucky MELONS.
Snakebite clawed his way out of the relegation zone by snatching a last-gasp draw against Simon Whitlock in Belfast on Thursday night.
The World No 2 came from 6-4 down thanks to a vital 120 finish but thanked his lucky fruit for keeping in the PL mix.
He revealed: “I wore melons on my shirt for my daughter because she loves them. So they were on my shirt for luck and that’s why I didn’t lose!
“The crowd helped me in a big way. They were getting on my back and a few people were winding me up the wrong way. They were booing me and telling me I’m something.
“So that 120 finish to keep me in the match was for them, to shut them up that’s all.
“It was important because I’ve moved out of the relegation zone and obviously now I’ve got to get on with next week.
“I’ve got to win in Munich this weekend, hopefully play Michael van Gerwen in the final and beat him this time.”
After three 7-1 Premier League defeats, Wright returned to form to reach the European Darts Open in Leverkusen and appears to have turned the corner after a recent slump.
He added: “The reason I was emotional last weekend because I was respected by the amazing crowds and staff in Germany, they treat you right.
“I always go through a lapse in a year, every year. Normally I lose it for a whole week and in practice too.
“I know I’m the only man who can push Michael, because he’s already told me this. So wait until I start hitting form and I’ll be passing him.
“I can’t explain it. I’ve been told off by all the team to stick with these diamond darts and they are all correct.
“The amount of times I was on nine-darters in practice was crazy. But I’m only going to get better and yes I’ve got to stick with these darts. The bad patch has totally gone my average will be over 105 again.”
