Gerwyn Price v Peter Wright - Premier League Night 16

Welshman Gerwyn Price’s hunt for a Premier League top four spot comes to a climax tonight as he faces Peter Wright in Leeds, for what is sure to be a spectacular league finale. Snakebite himself has shown signs of revival in recent weeks, reaching the final of the European Darts Grand Prix on Sunday, despite a poor Premier League campaign by his high standards. A win is a minimum for Price to break into the top four, as he sits a point behind both Suljvoic and Gurney above him. He’ll require both men to slip-up if he is to qualify for the finals night, but can pile on the pressure when he faces Wright first in proceedings. Gurney faces an already eliminated Michael Smith and knows he must better both Mensur Suljovic and Gerwyn Price’s results to guarantee a spot at the O2, London. Gurney is currently level on points and leg difference with fourth place Suljovic, and ahead of the Iceman in 6th. However, he trails Mensur on legs won against throw, which means he currently sits one place outside the play-offs in 5th position. Suljovic takes on reigning Premier League Champion and World number 1 Michael van Gerwen in Leeds, who himself is still chasing top spot and a £25,000 league winner bonus. Although James Wade may be currently sat in third place as the other players scrap for the play-offs, he still hasn’t got a guaranteed play-off spot. He’ll be taking on fellow Englishman and current table-topper Rob Cross, who knows a win will net him top spot in the league regardless of MvG’s result. The Machine takes to the stage in the last fixture of the evening and should both Suljovic and Gurney win, he knows that he will require at least a draw to earn his semi-final spot.
