HOLLAND WEEKEND 24/25th SEPTEMBER 2011 by Steve Beaton
I’m gutted.
I didn’t qualify for The World Grand Prix in Dublin, Ireland next month.
I travelled to The Van der Valk Hotel, in Nuland, Holland on Friday for two Player Championships hoping to qualify, but it wasn’t to be.
On the Saturday I played Mark Lieflink in the first round beating him 6-2, second Mark Frost 6-5 in a close fought game and then lost in the third to a very inform Ritchie Burnett 6-5 in another close game.
Gary Anderson won the tournament beating Colin Lloyd 6-2 in the final.
On the Sunday I made it to the last 16.
In my first I beat Danny Schellekens 6-3, second round Andy Jenkins 6-5, third Colin Osborne 6-1. Colin was also looking to qualify for The Grand Prix.
I then lost to Michael Smith 6-4 in the last 16.
Ritchie Burnett went on to win the tournament 6-4 against Dave Chisnall.
It was Ritchie’s first ranking title for more than a decade and secured him a spot in The World Grand Prix.
Well done Ritchie mate.
Cheers Steve
