ICEMAN THUNDERS TO VICTORY

Gerwyn Price claimed victory in yesterday’s Player’s Championship 21 – letting loose his NEW Thunder Special Edition darts for the first ever time on tour!

The Iceman bounced back from disappointment in the World Matchplay with a stunning day on the floor in Barnsley, lifting his second Pro Tour event of the year. Here’s how it unfolded.

Gezzy kicked off his day with wins over William O’Connor and Lukas Wenig in the first two rounds, averaging a remarkable 104 and 106 in the respective matches.

Next up for the World Champion was Luke Humphries in his board Final. In taking this win Gezzy set up a Quarter Final clash with Callan Rydz.

In this game, Gezzy found himself 5-2 down and facing elimination against one of the PDC’s newest stars. However, after surving match darts Gezzy showed why he is World Number One, rattling off four consecutive legs with a three-dart average of 105 to win 6-5.

His 7-3 win over Ian White in the Semi Final with a 112.5 average made for a comparatively straightforward game when compared with the Quarter Final that preceded it and the eventual Final that would follow.

It was a battle of ‘Hot vs Cold’ in the Final as the Iceman took on the ‘Heat’ – Damon Heta, for the title.

Like in the Quarter Final, Gezzy started slowly and was forced to mount a comeback. From 6-2 down, the World Champion hit the gas and stormed to victory, winning 6 legs out of 7, with an incredible three-dart average of 127!

Speaking to Red Dragon after lifting his title last night, Gerwyn told us, “I felt great all day. I knew when I was behind that I could still win and I just needed to play my own game.

“I was using my new Thunder darts for the first time competitively today and they went great. I’ve used them a lot in practise and I love the way they feel in my hand and how they fly, I will definitely keep using them.”

The Iceman first tried out his Thunder darts LIVE at the launch of his new World Championship range just 3 weeks prior to yesterday’s event and it was clear to see for the thousands watching just how quickly he got to grips with them and was immediately comfortable throwing them.
