Welsh star Jonny Clayton faces his first Premier League appearance against Michael Smith tonight in the bouncing city of Cardiff, as the Welshman looks to get the home crowd in fine voice.
Jonny has sealed his place as a Premier League contender with some fine televised matches and his form over the last three years has seen him steadily rise into the top 16 of the PDC World rankings.
Jonny’s rapid style and no-messing finishing makes him as a match for anyone, which World no.1 Michael van Gerwen found out to his peril at the PDC Masters in Milton Keynes.
Clayton is joined by World no.2 and no.3, Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price where they are both fighting for firm footing in the Premier League table, but for different reasons.
Gezzy has faced two incredible games where he has earned two draws with battling comebacks, showing unbelievable resolve to not get beaten.
The Iceman is by no means happy with his form as he expects to be winning these encounters – Gezzy said “It’s really hard to get over the line in the Premier League with the quick format, if you find yourself down early it can be a real struggle to get back and win.”
“On the other side of things it can also be struggle to kill games off when you’re in winning positions as we saw last week, I’m confident with these new Back-to-Black darts and in front of a hometown crowd I feel that I can push that extra bit further and get my first win on Thursday night”
World Champion Peter Wright faces Rob Cross who has been in some indifferent form but can always produce some fine displays, as we’ve seen in the past with some real rip-roaring matches between the pair over the last couple of years.
Peter is looking to build on last week where he picked up his first Premier League point of the season in a 6-6 draw with Gary Anderson. Peter may not have got his first win yet but is still in scintillating form off the back of his World Championship and Masters wins.
Peter said “It’s amazing, I can’t remember a time in the last 10 years where I’ve been this settled on a set darts like my current set.”
“It’s helping me in practice so much, I’m still learning how far I can go with these darts but I feel like can fill up the treble 20 time after time. I’m looking forward to playing Rob tonight who is always a stern challenge and without doubt World class on his darts”
You can watch all the action live on Sky Sports from 7pm at a packed Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena, which is always a very passionate and knowledgeable darts crowd.
