Article: Ladies Top Gun League

Ladies Top Gun League

At the beginning of the first Covid-19 lockdown United Kingdom Darts Association Communications Director Claire Stamper, to enable players to maintain interest and continue playing darts began a “Play-at-Home” Ladies Premier Darts League with mostly local North Eastern players at the beginning. The opening season saw sixteen players compete over eight weeks in the league with the top eight qualifying for finals night.

Winner of the inaugural season was Laura Patton

With restrictions still in place and no pub or club darts Claire organised season two. Interest increased and so did entries, the result being in addition to the Premier League there was now a new Championship League. The season was played over a shortened six weeks as no one knew how long the lockdown would last.

The outcome was a win for Jo Clements in the Premier League and Claire Brookin in the Championship League.

With lockdown being eased there was then a break with expectations of the usual pub and club leagues opening up once again. This was not to be and so Claire set about starting the two leagues once again.

Because of all the interest shown in Claire’s league she was then able to secure no fewer than four sponsors, in addition to this she also managed to attract Lewis Venes of LV Prints to assist in the leagues by producing all of the necessary graphics, plus Pearce Todd Darts arranged to do all of the streaming.

No fewer than five league games were streamed live every Thursday night and also finals night also went out live with Corrine Hammond winning the Premier Division and Angie Mann the Championship League.

After the leagues had proved to be so popular the idea now was to see if there would be enough interest to add a Division One. Expectations were by far exceeded and with a Division One guaranteed it was now likely there would possibly also be a Division Two.

Entries have come from far and wide including the Russian youth player Ksenia Klochek, however Claire still requires a few more players to confirm a Division Two will run. Entries are being accepted until the 8th January 2021, anyone interested or requiring any further information should contact Claire Stamper via her Facebook page which is Top Gun Promotions.
