Lakeside BDO World Championships 2016 - Last 40 players
The British Darts Organisation is pleased to announce that
the following player invitations have been issued for the 2016 Lakeside World
Professional Darts Championships.
Reigning BDO World Champion ‘Scotty Dog’ Scott Mitchell will arrive at the home of world darts to defend his Lakeside crown as the 6th seed, with the former 3-time champion he defeated 7-6 in the 2015 final ‘Wolfie’ Martin Adams returning as the No.2 seed. Heading the world rankings as the No.1 seed is the man who Adams overcame in a classic Lakeside semi-final back in January, Glen Durrant.
The 16 seeds for the men’s competition include the 2015 BDO World Trophy champion Geert de Vos and runner up Jeffrey de Graaf. They are joined by 2014 Winmau World Masters champion Martin Phillips, 2014 Zuiderduin Masters winner Jamie Hughes and the 2013 WDF World Cup Singles champion Wesley Harms. Lakeside favourites Darryl Fitton and Gary Robson also return, with 2013 BDO World Champion ‘Scotty 2 Hotty’ Scott Waites arriving as the No.9 seed. Recently crowned BDO British Open champion Mark McGeeney will appear at Lakeside as the highest ranked debutant in 2016, seeded 11th.

A further 16 players will compete in the Preliminary Round at the Lakeside. They feature the players ranked 25 and 26 in the BDO invitation tables and four qualifiers from the BDO world championship playoffs, to be held in Hull on October 7th. Automatic places are also granted to 2015 Lakeside semi finalist Jeff Smith and the 2015 Winmau World Masters champion. Should the Winmau winner on October 11th have had already qualified, then that place will be awarded to the standby player in 27th place from the BDO invitation table, 2-time former Lakeside World Champion ‘the Count’ Ted Hankey.

These players will be drawn into the Preliminary Round against 8 international qualifiers. The winner of the Asian qualifying tournament is to be joined at Lakeside by the seven players who top each of the BDO regional rankings tables, listed below.

Invitations have also been issued for the 2016 BDO Women’s World Championship and the list is headed by the new BDO world number one and 2-time reigning Lakeside World Champion, ‘the Lancashire Rose’ Lisa Ashton. She will be accompanied by an impressive cast list that includes those that challenged her in the 2014 and 2015 finals, Deta Hedman and Fallon Sherrock. The seeded players also include 3-time champion ‘from Russia with Love’ Anastasia Dobromyslova and 9-time champion ‘the Golden Girl’ Trina Gulliver MBE, who will be making her 16th consecutive appearance.

The unseeded players (ranked 9-13) include 2014 semi finalist Ann Louise Peters of Denmark and making her debut at the Lakeside, Australia’s Corrine Hammond. They will be drawn out against the seeded players alongside two qualifiers from the BDO world championship playoffs in Hull and the 2015 Winmau World Masters champion, or world No.14 Anca Zijlstra from the Netherlands if the Masters winner has already qualified.

In addition to the 40 men and 16 ladies heading to Frimley Green there will also be two youth players contesting their own final upon the famous Lakeside stage. The BDO World Youth Championship playoffs will be taking place in Hull on Wednesday 7th October.
The draw for the 39th BDO World Championships will be made on Sunday 11th October at Hull City Hall during finals day of the Winmau World Masters.
The 2016 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships will be broadcast live on BBC Television in partnership with BT Sport, on Saturday 2nd to Sunday 10th January.
