Line-up Complete for Championship Darts
Stage 3, played on Saturday 8th March, saw PDC player David Copley defeat Cleveland’s Kenny Dobson (19-19-18-20) 5-4 in the best of nine leg final with legs of 18-19-21-18 and 18 darts.
Copley won 4-1 over Kevin Samuels in the semi-finals whilst Dobson’s 117 finish for 18 was the highlight in the second semi-final as he whitewashed Andy Wheeler (Bridlington) in the second semi with all four players moving forward to the Grand Finals. Dobson also included a 117 finish for 18-17 and 16 in ending Mark Lawrence’s run at the π final stage. Wheeler won 3-1 over Bill Hague, Samuels came back from 2-0 down to beat Jason Day 3-2 whilst Copley (13-15-16) beat Neil Hart (17-15).
Other legs of note at stage 3 came from Samuels 15, Jason Day 15, Hart 18 and 19, Darren Johnson 15-15-19, Dobson 18, Mark Lawrence 14 and Hague 19. Dobson also added a further 120 to his trio of ton plus finishes with Hart 106 the best for the rest. Further 180’s scores were recorded by Shaun Day and Johnson.
Several players returned the following day for the last qualifying Stage which saw Scarborough’s Graham Usher whitewash PDC’s Mark Lawrence with 16-15-15-16 and 14 darts with a 98.88 average.
The final two places were taken up by Harvey Rodgers who lost 4-2 in the semi-finals to Usher (180 score for 17 and 118 finish for 18) with Bill Hague going down 4-1 to Lawrence ( 2 x 180’s in 2 x 15 dart legs).
Lawrence included 17-14 and 20 darts in ending Pickering’s Alan Dawson’s hopes of qualifying whilst the other π Final results were Hague (18) 3 Andy Crozier 2, Rodgers 3 Mark Kent 0 and Usher 3 Richard Heathcote 3.
Earlier fast legs came from Neil Hart 19, Heathcote 18-17, Trevor Day 21, Rodgers 14, Dawson 17-18-19-18 and 18, Lawrence 18-18 and 16, Corzier 16, Hague 18-20 with Steve Vine 15 and 20 the best of the rest.
Ton plus checkouts were recorded by Rodgers 100 with Lawrence and Kent both hitting 120.
Additional 180’s were hit by Lawrence (3), Kent (2), Steve Brooke, Jason Day, Usher and Shaun Day.
The 16 qualifiers who will be playing off at the Blue Bell Hotel on Saturday 19th April 2014 are Wayne Woodhouse (Ferrybridge), Darren Hale (Huddersfield), Rich Corner (York), John Quantock (York), Jamie Ellam (Humberside), Steve Rice (Bridlington), Daniel Lidgett (Humberside), Terry Temple (Whitwell on the Hill), Kevin Samuels (Hunmanby), Dave Copley (Thurnscoe), Andy Wheeler (Bridlington), Kenny Dobson (Cleveland), Harvey Rodgers (Hornsea), Graham Usher (Scarborough), Mark Lawrence (Pontefract) and Bill Hague (Pickering).
These players will play down to the last four during the afternoon session starting at where Professional’s Scotty Waites, James Wilson, Martin Atkins and Darryl Fitton will join the event to see which player will be crowned the Blue Bell Hotel Invitational Darts Champion.
