Article: NEW CONTRACT FOR PICKLED WALNUT/ADLIB PARTNERSHIP

NEW CONTRACT FOR PICKLED WALNUT/ADLIB PARTNERSHIP

Two Liverpool-based companies have secured their first joint contract – an international sporting event at the iconic Blackpool Tower.

Just weeks after joining forces Pickled Walnut Events, based at The Florrie in Dingle, and Speke-based Adlib, the sound, light and vision specialists, have announced that they will be managing the British Darts Organisation’s (BDO) first World Trophy in February.

The BDO World Trophy will attract more than 1,000 competitors and up to 14,000 spectators from throughout the world. Competitors will be playing alongside the game’s greats including Scott Waites, Stephen Bunting, Jan Dekker and Richie George and will be battling it out for a prize fund of more than £115,000.

The World Trophy is being organised by BDO Events, the commercial arm of the British Darts Organisation, and will take place in the tower from 4-9 February.

Mike Hughes, Pickled Walnut Events director, said: "We are delighted to be working with BDO Events on the World Trophy, which will be the first tournament in a year-long festival of darts. It’s a fantastic start to the partnership.

"Darts is continuing to grow in popularity and the World Trophy will be a chance for fans to witness a live event in the stunning Blackpool Tower environment.”

Top players from throughout the world are already competing in play offs to determine who will represent their country in the World Trophy.

The World Trophy is the first in a year-long programme of events culminating in the Super Series in July.

Scott Newhouse, BDO Events managing director, added: " We are so excited about the World Trophy and to be working with Pickled Walnut Events and Adlib.

"The launch of this new competition and the sizeable prize fund is the right direction for the BDO, which will see men and women competing for this new title in the first of what is going to be an exciting year of new tournaments in the darts world. 2014 will be a true festival of darts.”

Tickets range from £5 to £35 for spectators and £20 to take part. For further information and to register visit www.bdoevents.com or telephone 01709 555343.
