Oswestry darts player wins international debut

Oswestry’s number one darts player has been representing the town on the world stage, with a winning international debut for Wales.

Oswestry Darts League’s number one player, Neil Astley, produced a fine display in his first ever international event, the Celtic Cup, where he won his own individual game by three legs to one.

Neil’s talent has been well known to the Oswestry Darts League, where he captains the Stanton Inn A team, currently holding the top spot in the A section of the league. He was also a member of the hugely successful Bell Inn darts side who won a great many trophies over recent years.

Congratulating Neil, the secretary of the Oswestry Darts League, Bryan Phillips said the honours were well overdue and that the league were delighted at his success: "Neil is one of the most respected and well liked players in the Oswestry League," he explained, "His playing record is second to none."

A league stalwart, Neil has won the Oswestry League’s individual title on five occasions and paired with various partners has won the doubles title no less than six times, as well as being a member of teams winning the league championship on numerous occasions.

Wishing Neil well on what the his colleagues hope will be the first of many call-ups, Bryan added: "On behalf of the Oswestry League officials, committee and players I would like to congratulate him on gaining his first representative honour for Wales."
