DOUBLE world champion darts player Dennis ^The Menace^ Priestley is to become a patron of the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

Dennis, who lives in Mexborough, was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and has had surgery followed by radiotherapy at Weston Park Hospital. He is waiting to find out the outcome of the treatment but has been able to compete in the Ladbrokes World Darts Championships at Alexandra Palace.

"It is a massive shock for anyone to be told it^s the ^big C^ and you think it^s virtually a death sentence," he said. "But having had treatment, and through talking to the specialists, I know it^s not necessarily all doom and gloom."
